First off I am new to posting on this forum, have been following for a long time though.
Anyways, I am also new to reloading and I am trying to develop a load for my hunting rifle 270wsm.

So I loaded some rounds up last night and went out and sent them down range this morning. The rounds were loaded in 0.5 grain increments begging at 56 and stopping at 59.5 grains.

Info on the loads:
270wsm Browning Xbolt
Federal cases trimmed to 2.085"
Primed with Winchester LRM
140 grain Nosler Accubonds
Overall Length of 2.857"
IMR 4350 powder:
Shot #1 - 56 grains
Shot #2 - 56.5 grains
Shot #3 - 57 grains
Shot #4 - 57.5 grains
Shot #5 - 58 grains
Shot #6 - 58.5 grains
Shot #7 - 59 grains
Shot #8 - 59.5 grains

All shots were taken at 100yds off of a bench. The shots are all in a pretty close area, with about 1.25" being the biggest gap between shots.
Shots 2, 3, 4 are all touching and is about a .5" group. Shots 5, 7, 8 and are about a .375" group but shot 6 was a little but higher but still really with it included is a .5" group.
My question is what grains of IMR 4350 should I being playing with for my next step, grouping the same load. 56.5 to 57.5 could be it or 58 to 59.5? Any help here would be much appreciated!!!

I followed this procedure to get these results:

You should shoot at least 5 shots (10 is better) in one group with each charge weight to see how it performs.

That aside, by the looks of your group, any one charge weight may well shoot well under an inch for several shots.

I would do as bart has said. load 4-5 shots of each #5- #7 then I would try and step back a little farther than 100yards if possible. I have had really good luck with 59.5gr. of 4350 in several different 140gr bullets. but if you can get your hands on a jug of magpro you will probably be very happy with the results you see. I am shooting a Browning M-1000 Eclipse in 270wsm and have shot several sub .250 groups with magpro, and if your gun likes it you should see a major increase in velocity.

I know its not a browning but I had a tikka 270wsm last year and it probably my biggest regret of my life getting rid of it besides getting married haha but with the 129lrx and RL17 I was getting 3430fps and consistently shot 1/2" groups at 200yrd. H4350 and IMr are great in the 270 and 300 wsm but if you can get your hand on some RL17 its amazing what it can do if your rifle likes it. That gun was the most accurate rifle I have ever owned in my life.

I shot my groups this weekend, and 57.5gr and 59.5gr where the best groups. But they where not very tight. They were both about 1.5" groups. Not really what I am looking for. A little bit of a let down after looking shooting that modified ladder group as posted before.
Any idea's? Should I ditch the IMR4350, I also have H1000 and IMR4166? I kept one of my targets of my best groups, any help of where to go would be much appreciated. Everything was loaded the same as before as mentioned in my previous posts.

After I shot those groups I went home and loaded 5 each of 57.5 grains and 59.5 grains and went out the next morning and shot these unsatisfactory groups.

Have you cronographed the loads? What was the wind doing?
Berger has suggested here to test seating depth first and velocity second. Your original target is confusing because usually your bullets string higher when the load is increased and yours goes backwards

All times there was virtually no wind.
I was thinking that as well with my first shots. The more powder should have raised the shots.
I have not chrono'd the loads. I don't have access to one, so I am looking to buy one but have to travel out of my small town to do that.

I just seated a bullet excessively long into an uncharged case to try to find where my lands are. I did it 10 times and all 10 times I came out with the same number 2.906".
I was seating my bullets at 2.857", so I am probably to far off of the lands? I checked the bullet seated at 2.906" and they still fit in my magazine. Maybe go 10 thou of the lands?

Ok for starters. how many rounds through this barrel? How long has it been since cleaning? How long are you waiting between shots and groups? Are these Groups being fired from sandbags? The horizontal spread of the last few groups fired is very interesting that is why I ask about how rounds are being fired. I would go to the 59.5 since it looks most promising and start a seating depth test. Start at .01 off, .03, and .05 4 shot each and see what you get. Before firing any more let us know how many rounds since last cleaning.

One more thing. From my experience with my browning you should have about 10 rounds fired since cleaning before trying any load development. then a thorough copper clean out after somewhere around 50 shots before accuracy starts to fall back off some.

Don't get discouraged though brownings have serious potential.
