270wsm 150lrab load

I haven't in .270 but in both 7MM and 30 they like a good running jump to the lands to shoot well in my rifles. I would suspect you might see this in .270 also.

This can get you started since every barrel/bullet/powder combination is different:

I use Re-23 or Re-26 in a short (21") barrel. Both powders burn completely in the short barrel and the combination makes for a great hunting/carry rifle with a suppressor in place.

Source out more book loads then start your own load development.

Enjoy!

I started a test run with the 150ablr with R-26 around Christmas. I have a Rem 700 BDL/ SPS - JLock with a 24-inch factory barrel. My go-to load is 140 Accubonds with 67.2 gr of R26. I'm getting 3320 fps with that load and solid accuracy.

Here are my findings with 150 ABLR:

270 WSM
3x fired Hornady brass
CCI -250 primers
150 ABLR
R-26
2.185 to ogive = .015 off the lands for my gun

62.5 - 3020 (two shot average velocity)
63.0 - 3051
63.5 - 3069
64.0 - 3085
64.5 - 3134 (.4 MOA)
65.0 - 3136
65.5 - 3158
66.0 - 3178
66.5 - 3208 (.58 MOA)
67.0 - 3245 (.6 MOA)

Primer pockets were good on the upper end and no pressure signs were noticed. All the loads had lower than 15 SD so this powder is to my liking. I'm going to push it past 67gr (a little) next time out and see if I can find a flat spot in velocity at the upper end. (I'm a speed junky with this rig and R26.. ha). The 64.5 - 65.0 gr area shows a flat spot and accuracy but I'd like to see a node on the high end. Good luck with your load development and keep us posted!

I am pretty sure you are at the upper end. RL-26 will hit a hard pressure wall. Be careful.

Looks like RL26 is the best powder wish I had more of it. Gives me a great place to start and what to expect. Thanks for the info.

Sure thing! Have fun but like sedancowboy said... be careful. 67 gr. is in the ballpark of a hot load. I know my gun and how it handles pressure. I have blown a primer or two before. Work up slowly and know how to read the pressure signs on your brass and hard bolt lift. One thing I do regularly is to mark my cases with the charge weight I'm shooting. Even if I don't see signs at the range that I'm at or close to pressure, when you deprime your brass, overly loose pockets will give you a heads up that you need to really start paying attention. Have fun !!

Alliant load data on 270wsm with R-26 is helpful as well but they list top load for the 140 accubond at 69 gr. with Fed 215. I started blowing primers at 68.3 gr with CCI250. Every gun is a little different so stay safe. Keep us posted!

I think I'm going to be happy and a 3100 to 3150 range. I'm shooting a factory Winchester 70 featherweight stainless so I don't think the accuracy will get me much past 500y.

Don't sell a factory gun short my friend. Winchesters are good rifles. I've got 7 factory rifles I load for. I have gotten every one of them to shoot .5 moa or better. I've had to bed a few of them or switch stocks but all in all, I will make them shoot. It takes some time on some guns and I may not get the velocity where I want but good hand loads will do amazing things to factory rifles. You won't see me buying a custom rig for hunting purposes any time soon.
