hello everyone i've been loading sierra game kings in my Winchester 70 270 short mag but I haven't been able to find the greatest accuracy so im back at the drawing board. What i'm looking for is something in the 130/140gr area, powder im not too sure, I have some H1000 and R-22 on hand. Ive heard good things with the SM's and R-19. I'm leaning towards the Accubonds or maybe Barnes TSX as they seem to be good all around hunting bullets. I hunt in the 6000-9000ft range and its usually pretty cold 0-50 degrees and the critters I hunt range from Antelope to Elk. Does anyone have any suggestions and experience with the Accubonds or TSX in the 270SM's? Powder? Ill probably be using Fed 215 primers and Winchester brass. Any info would be great. Thanks!!!

I found that MagPro produced velocities that were 60 -100 fps higher that similar pressures with R-22, 4000MR, W780, IMR7828, SuperPerformance, VV N-560 with 140 gr Bullets.

I like the 140 Accubond for accuracy and high BC. I also tried the Berger 140 VLD and it shot well. I use the cheaper Ballistic Tips for practice but they do not have the same BC and shoot lower in my rifle. I would not be afraid to use Hornady SSTs.

I use Winchester Brass (to keep it seperate from my Norma cases that were converted to 6.5WSM and Federal 215M primers.

I've been doing load development also and I finally just found it. 63.5 grains of H4831sc and 130 grain Barnes TTSX shoots 1/2 inch groups out of my Tikka. Tried Rl 19, Rl22. Imr 4350 and nothing shoots better then H4831sc

All 3 Model-70 Winchester 270WSM's I load for LOVE 140Accubonds over 61-64 gr of RL-19 for from 3000+ fps to well over 3100 fps.

2 Factory Model-70 Winchester Featherweights. 63, & 64gr

1 Factory Model-70 Winchester Coyote 61gr

RL-19 is a dream combo with 140 Accubonds in the 270WSM

I get 3300 fps with 130gr SST and RL-17. Half inch groups, Savage rifle(and barrel), .005 jump, fits in mag.

Very good accuracy with 140gr BTSP(Hornady), RL-17 as well. Same jump.

The SST bullet has performed very well for me, I'd go maybe 150gr for elk. The 130 would work, but I would not go through the front shoulder.

I would go Mag Pro or try Win 780 next.

I too am getting right at 3300 fps using RL17 and 129 grain Barnes LRX's in my Winchester model 70 fwt. I just finished the development of this load and it has proved very accurate so far.

I had just switched from 130 grain tsx's using RL17 and that load was quite good but wanted to go try the higher BC lrx and it seems to have worked out well. It has held it accuracy to 400 yards and hopefully will be able to confirm it on game this fall.

I like Retumbo under the 140+gr bullets in the 270 WSM, I ran them in the 3300-3350 fps range. I switched to the 165 Matrix at 3060fps and haven't shot anything else since!

I'll have to +1 on the Matrix VLD's. 5-shots sub MOA out of my bone-stock sporter X-Bolt in 270 WSM. Thanks BnG for advocating the Matrix.

66.5 Gr Retumbo, Fed 215M, 2.920 OAL (max for my magazine, .025 off lands), 2975 fps from a 23" barrel. I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on any game in NA.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the input and info....i dont know how hard it is to find reloading supplies where you live but here in ol Cheyenne Wy its **** near impossible but i found what i was looking for....I think the combo ill start with is RL-19, 140 Accubonds, Federal Gold Medal Match primers and Winchester brass and go from there. Ill let you all know how the shooting goes, ill probably start making my loads in the next few days. Thanks again!!

Hey everyone, I took my first set of test loads out and here are my results. I was using the 140 accubonds, 60-65 gr of RL19, federal 215 primers and once fired Winchester brass. Now keep in mind that im shooting a bone stock Winchester model 70 270WSM, there is nothing special about it. I think with playing with some 1/10 grain adjustments and COAL I can squeeze it down a bit tighter.....ill keep you updated.
