>270 Win. load development thoughts....

I find that a near max load of IMR4451 for 3100fps under 129g Barnes is accurate and very deadly. H4350 will give same result but with out the copper reducer. Both are pretty temperature stable.

H4831 is accurate with all .277 bullets but lacks velocity even with cup and core bullets.

I've had consistent performance from IMR4350 for a long time. Great with monos like the 130gn Hornady GMX.

My .270 is a 1951 Remington 721, with the factory barrel, so it's not a Ferrari. It shoots sub .500 at 100 yards with H4831, Hornady brass, and Nosler 140 BT.
My 270 is a 1958 Remington 721 with the factory barrel. It shoots .5 MOA with IMR 4350 and Hornady 150's. I have been waiting for it to start shooting bad groups, so I can replace the barrel. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Not the best photo, but my dad's 1951 Remington 721, in .270. Shoots 140 gn Nosler BTs sub .500 MOA with H4831. Love this rifle, and I can't wait for one of my dad's great-grandchildren to harvest with it.

I have loaded 150 gr. Hornady interlocks with RL-19 chronograph 2850, very accurate, shoot an elk with this load. The shot was hard quartering away 100 yards, bullet entered far back ribs exited out the throat. Elk spun in a circle and hit the ground. I loaded the same bullet over IMR 4350 chronograph 2936, this load is very accurate too and getting higher FPS than expected. Both these loads are 1/4" or less at 100 yards in my rifle. I have some IMR 7977 to try as some as I get the chance.

I'd like to know how that 7977 works out.

I have used MRP, RL 22 N165, IMR 4350. It shot well with all of them but N165 is the best powder in my rifle.

It may be after spring bear season before I get a chance to try it. I'll ether post it on here or make a new post on how it works out. I want to try it in the 243, 270 WSM and 300 Win. Mag. too.

Just an FYI, I tried some 4955 last year in 270 Rem 700 mtn rifle with 130g barnes tsx, 57-59.5 grains. In range of barnes load data and I got stiff bolt lift and slight ejector marks, velocities were 3200 on my chrono. It may be reading ~75fps high. Same gun shoots 140g hornady bt with 59g of RL22 without issue. This information offered for comparison purposes. 4955 should be equivalent to 4831.

My factory T3 270 shoots 140gr Sierra game changers best with H1000 but IMR4451 also goes very well, just a bit less velocity.
