I am making this post as to not derail another Sherman reloading thread. Below are my initial velocities using H1000, H4831sc, and H4350. This is out of a Preferred Barrel 20". Bullet is 150 grain Nosler ABLR. I have not done group testing yet, just wanted to see what speed I could wring out and where to start my ladder tests. I will try to keep this thread as up to date as possible.

*Always start low and work up a load in your rifle. These are safe in my rifle, possibly not yours.

Which bullet weight?

Interesting that 4350 seems to have given you the most speed. I tried 4831sc in mine (23.5" barrel) and gave up before I ever made it out of the 2800s. Just no speed with it. I went to RL26 abc found the speed I was looking for but still not as fast as your speeds with 4350. Maybe I need to revisit my load and try a faster powder. I was using 150 Hornadys and 156 Hammers. May be worth trying RL17?

I ws surprised as well. The 4831sc was very underwhelming for me. I bet I could get to 3050 FPS with a 62-64 grain charge which would be extremely compressed. Not something I would do when H4350 gave me the velocity I am happy with. If I could find any Reloader powder, I would give that a try. I haven't seen any on my LGS shelves in 2 years. No luck with online retailers either.

I use 185gr bullets in my 7mm using slow powder 4831sc and slower and I get Lazer accuracy out a 26" McGowan precision barrel 5 r with built in break. Now byproduct is no flyers ,less wind effected and broader sweet spots the bullet being longer has 700 bc numbers and can run fast as your gun can take ! So it isn't all about speed for me it's dropping my group in the size of a pencil eraser that shock an awesome my friends at the range

5 shot group 30 06 with a 75 yr old rifle with 190 gr first time out needing +.1 or .2 of a grain to close!

Went this morning to see what kind of groups I could get. Settled in on the 58 grains of H4350 (top right group). Going 3070, this should be a great deer rifle for this fall.

Which primer? With my 338SS there's a difference with magnum vs large rifle and faster powders. I'm also using H4350

I'm using CCI 250's in mine. Mind sharing your load for your 338? I took mine off H4350 because I was only getting 2725 without pressure from H4350 and 250 Berger's.

F215M and 60.7 H4350 with a 225 ttsx going just under 2700 with my 22" barrel. I stopped chasing velocity and narrowed down powder choices to non temp sensitive. Varget pressured up too quick in my particular barrel, RL17 gave better velocity but not as accurate as H4350. I fought with mine for a long time and decided to stop and get using it.
