I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to take a ~125lb doe with my 260 Rem this fall. The rifle was acquired last winter, and despite my best laid plans I did not get the chance to do any real load development with it over the summer. I shot a few trials with 37.0gr Varget and 140gr Berger VLDs just to test basic function and to set a zero, and that was it. I would expect with this combo that I am running a MV of somewhere in the high 2500's, but I never even got it on the chrony (maybe NEXT spring).

On a whim I grabbed it instead of the 7-08 for what I knew would be a <200yd hunt, and was able to get a shot that was almost exactly 100 yds broadside. The doe ran about 40 yds before piling up.

The pictures show both the entrance and exit on the inside of the rib cage, as well as the damage to the heart in-between. I found a substantial amount of jacket (maybe 30% of total) against the ribs adjacent to the exit wound.

I am supremely interested in the terminal ballistics of different bullet constructions, weights, velocities, calibers, etc. If you have pictures from your hunts this fall, please feel free to post them!

This is a mule deer buck at 240 yards, quartering hit back of ribs exiting behind the shoulder. Berger 140 hunting starting at 3225 from a 6.5 SS, very light hot with little bone contact. Nice double lung hole and lung hanging out the exit.
