I have an older Remington 700 30.06 and as I have mentioned here before, I want to do something different with it.
I was just wondering if a 26 Nosler would be a possibility with this action.

My smith suggested a 30 06 AI but I am not familiar with the AI so I am doing some reading on it.

Any input??

Yes. I believe it can. I an using a 270 for a magnum build.

There will be some additional work.

Bolt/bolt face. From Standard to Magnum.
Feed lips will need to be widened.

and I would say go for it.

but to add a little discussion.

What are you after for ballistics?

The 26-Nosler is seriously impressive but I put it in the class if a 7mmRUM. This from a 300RUM and 338/300RUM shooter. It's very fast but you have to remember that barrels are a consumable portion of the shooting process.

I will soon have a 270/26-Nosler, 284/26-Nosler, 308/26-Nosler and 338/26-Nosler. So of course I support anyone wanting to go the route of a 26-Nosler anything. Though for myself I will skip the actual 26-Nosler chambering.

If you want the fasted 6.5mm, to quote Michael Myers "Yeah baby". Just remember the barrel may not last as long as your 30-06.

A suggestion: rechamber your 30-06 to 308/26-Nosler. It will be more than a Win Mag or WSM but not as much as a 300RUM. The efficiency is according to QuickLoad is better than a 300RUM so it might not be less than a RUM in the end.

What velocity are you expecting to get with a 230 gr bullet from your 308/26-nosler?

All the first wildcats are 24" barrels.

Using QL which got my 338/26-Nosler pretty well with quality data.
Berger 230 Hybrids.
If it were a 26" barrel I think I can get to 2950fps at ~58000psi
My 300RUM should make 3050fps at the same pressure.

Basically in 30cal, the models are all around 100fps slower in the Nosler than RUM

After I get back from this trip, pick up the rifles, install the Pressure Trace II on the 300 RUM, 338 Edge and wildcat 26-Noslers and have at.

Some interesting suggestions there. The longer i think about this the hight the $$ tag becomes.
I have a 300wm and a 270 win. The 06 was my first rifle and I have always had a soft spot for it but I have also been thinking 25-06, 25-06AI or 338-06 or 6.5-06?

This will be a standard 500 yrd hunting rifle not a long range rig.

Since you have a 30 cal and a 27cal IIWM 25-06 and get all those little 1/4 bore bullets zipping along. My 1/4 bore is a Why.
