Hey all, I have an old savage long action laying around and was wondering what I would need to change in order to build a 308 win with it.

It all depends on what caliber that it was and how old it is.
What caliber is it and when was it made?

The old style 110s (before 1959 or so) have a different style bolt, extractor, ejector and bolt head....Aftermarket parts (ie: triggers, barrels ) are not as readily available.
Aftermarket triggers can be modified to fit these actions and a complete modern style bolt will fit. After that making the magazine work may be another hurdle.
Another donor action/rifle of the modern style may end up being a better buy/value.

If the action is the newer style and was not a magnum or small rifle caliber then an aftermarket .308 prefit barrel will install easily with the proper tools and probably work great with no other alterations except for a maybe a little tweaking of the magazine lips. Magnum calibers will require a new bolt head (maybe a firing pin) and probably a new mag box and follower. Small rifle calibers (probably not your long action) also require a new bolt head, baffle and mag box & follower..

Savages are very versatile and most likely anything can be made to work if you try.

Good Luck,
Randy
