3.1" is the cartridge length listed for the 240 Weatherby. Any 240 shooters have success with lessening bullet jump. Just started playing with Barnes 85 grain TSX, and was hoping to cut down on bullet waste.

Are you shooting them from a Weatherby rifle? I've used bullets in one of the MkV's in the 70gr weight with very good luck in the accracy department. Cheers.

Shooting the Mk V Hunter. Hoping to keep velocity at about 3500 fps to keep a little barrel life. The Barnes fit that bill pretty well. Appreciate the input. Thanks much.

What powders have you tried?
My 240 has responded well to H4831 with the 85 grain weights. IMR 4350 with the 70/75 grain weights. RL 22 with the 95/100/105 grain weights. Right not, I have RL22 behind the 80 grain TTSX and they are doing 3700 fps from my 26" barrel. Barrel life be damned ;)
Any similar powders can work, you need to experiment to find the seating depth that your rifle likes.

First trial was using RL-17. Couple more loaded for another go, IMR 4831, H1000, and Hybrid 100V. I'll see what they do with the 85 gr TSX.

Right now, I'm still testing powders at the manual 3.1", which is about
.195 from the lands.
The 3.1" COAL is just a guide the reloading manual suggested when they did their load development. You need to find the best compromise between the CBTO and COAL that your setup allows you. For instance, I have a .257 WBY (.378" freebore). The recommended COAL is 3.17' COAL, but my current load is 3.34" COAL/2.833" CBTO (.015" off the lands) with 145 Black Hole Bullets. Good luck!
