I know this wouldn't really be a long range round persay, but I am planning on using it on coyotes out there a ways. I am currently shooting the 22-250 ai with the 75 a max at 3350. This gun is accurate shooting clover leafs at 200, but i want some more speed. I would like to get 3500 or more and really have fun with these a max's. I know this is going to burn up a barrel fast, but i think it could be a fun gun.

I am going to be dropping off a savage factory 22-250 sporter batrel at my smiths to have him chamber it for the cheeta mk 1, this will be my fire forming barrel as well as something i can smoke dsome 55-60 grain bullets out of to dust some crows or rock chucks on aoccasion, not to worried about it since it is really just there to shape brass.

Then i will be getting a blank maybe a #5 contour, 1:8 twist, with a little longer shank for reseting the barrel a couple times about 27-28" to start.

Anyone done this or have any experience with the cheeta 1, 22-243 ai pretty much the same thing.

I have been looking at doing something similar and have read a lot, but I am not going to say I have any experience, just what I have come to understand.

One thing you might want to think about is your twist. A 1:8 twist will stabilize a 75 grain amax at .223 velocities. As you increase your velocity, you need less twist to stabilize it, because the rpm increase with velocity. Too many rpm and you explode bullets, from what I understand, some people have problems and some people don't, but I would think less twist would still be fine.

Just something somebody else might have more hands on experience with.

I looked at running a 1:9 and i was getting about a 1.48,9 with that bullet at around 3600 at 1800fasl so i figure go with an 8 and if something doesn't go rite i can shoot 80's or better.

I think a 1:9 would give me a slight fps increas, but not a lot

Looks like you have already ran the numbers there.

If you do have to go heavier though, you might not get as much speed and that seemed like the purpose of the build. Though running some 90gn bullets is going to make it really nice for long range.

Either way it should be fun and hope it works out!

Thanks, ill keep some inf up about it once it gets going. The 75's do well already, i have taken dogs at 600 with them, if i was to go heavier i would do the 80 a max most likely

My old man has a Cheetah and has had nothing but problems with it. So when I wanted a fast 22 I re-chambered my 250 to .22-250AI (4400 fps w/1-14" twist). Would you be able to achieve your 3500 fps velocity this way instead of the Cheetah?? I think in the long run it'd be easier at least.

After this weekend i will see how it does with rl 17, my go to load rite now over all is h 4350 at about 3325, i have yet to see what this powder change could do for me, but a couple guys have said try it. This is with the 22-250 ai. I am actually thinking of going a 1:9 twist on my cheeta barrel now so i dont twist those bullets apart. Should get 75's going well through that.

Sorry Calib, I missread your original statement. I thought you were wanting to go from the standard 22-250 to the cheetah. Good luck with this! I'm curious to see how it turns out.

What the barrell life like on 22 cheetah? I once had a 22-284 . It shot 40 v-max to the speed of the bullets blowing up. Shot 40 nosler at same load and they stayed to gether, go figuare. I shot the barrell out at 800 rds. It went from 1/4 moa gun to 1/2moa gun to 1 1/2 moa gun very quickly!gun)
