hi, I am fairly new to shooting long range and I hope i am posting this in the right spot. if I am not just let me know. My question is: Does anyone have any experience using the 208 a-max for a 30-06. I have been using 168 a-max bullets and have had good success so far just wandering if there would be any advantage using the 208 over 168. (details: savage 110 54.5gr of H-4350 @2700 tested to 600 yds).

I shot them through my 06Ackley to 1400 yards this weekend and was amazed. I meant to post some pics of recovered shrapnel but lost the recovered bullets somewhere. I need less MOA to reach the target than my buddy who was shooting his 300WM with 168. But, still did not have enough adjustment in my scope. I was improvising using the bottom of the scope plus 12 MOA and while I only hit the 12 inch by 16 inch target once my misses were pretty darn tight. I would guess that with a better aiming point they would shoot pretty darn well.

thanks for the imput I did some ballistics and trajectory calculations on eskimos.com ballistics rescourse and found that the 208 @ 2500 shoots flatter than the 168 @ 2800. However the 2500fps was a guess I do not have any reload data for the 208 in my 06' does anyone know how fast I can push this bullet out of a 23 in barell?

I've never shot the 208's out of an 06 but, for comparison's sake, it's no big trick to get 2800 with 180's out of a 22" tube at sane pressures. Also, I've ran 190SMK's out of a 308 at 2630 in a 26" tube. So, I'm thinking you should be able to push the 208's to 2650 to 2700, depending.........

Thanks alf that helps me alot. I will probably buy some of these and do some testing. I have a friend who shoots a 30-338 but it obviously has no prob pushing the 208. Thats why I was asking. thanks again all for the help.:)
