It may be done but you must use a 2 pole afci or gfci breaker depending on location. I agree to know what you are doing.

Any chance you'll want to do annealing in the future? Some of those setups can draw some power. Induction, salt bath with a lead pot, etc can run off 120v but will draw some amps. Like everyone else has said, wire is cheap right now, and opening it back up later is not.
