$1500-ish?

After considering several "value priced" optics in the sub $800 range I decided to embrace the idea of a complete build and want some glass that does my build some justice.

Defiance anTi X
Xcaliber ultralight CF barrel w/cryo treatment
MDT ACC chassis
Triggertech trigger

I was considering something mid range like the Viper series from Vortex but am wondering if I'd be better served picking up something like a reburb Steiner T6XI 5-30x56 for that $1500 price tag or maybe there's something better…? I'm all ears and waiting for class to start boys.
 
You could take a cheap ruger American in whatever caliber and shoot groups with factory ammo, and hit 20 inch steel at 1000y. But if the scope is junk….

What I'm getting at is a scope is a telescopic sight. You're going to want to get the specs you think you need, and then pay extra for whatever you want.

Reticle is a big one. Especially when it comes to steiner, and depending where you're at as a shooter. It's subjective to a degree. There's some ignorance amongst the community too. For instances, arguments might be made that the only reason for a Xmas tree is if you hold over. That's not true. Meanwhile, I don't think something like their msr2 reticle would do much for you unless you're a warfighter. Even then there's better options..

The other thing is total turret travel. The model you mentioned is 28 mils. That's total travel. You'll be about half of that when you zero not using a 20 or 30 moa rail. That might be good enough. It might not be. Again, it depends on the distances you plan to stretch out too.

All I'm saying is know what you need, then look around to see what fits that. T6Xi is a a nice scope though.

Light[er] weight rifle 😉 That stock bare is 3.2lbs but with all the weight adds it can hit 8.6lbs! I've got a sub 6lbs 6 ARC that takes care of my ultralight needs and wanted something a bit more dedicated and adaptable to really embracing the long range game.
That NF NXS has been around forever and seems to somehow still be relevant. I'll have to check it out.
 
I'm in the same boat as you...looking for a scope for my 7prc build. The scope topic is worse than Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge...people are so passionate about their brand and everyone has an opinion on magnification and reticles. One forum likes one brand and then the next forum trashes it. You find a scope that has everything you want except one thing. It seems like you have to compromise....max or min magnification, light vs heavy, durability vs not as reliable. I honestly dont think there is a perfect scope out that that can check every box.

But I agree, why spend over $1,500 on an action and skimp on the scope, just doesnt make sense. I get it budgets get tight but its like buying a supped up lifted truck to put tiny highway tires on it.

- 20 mils
- Japanese or higher level glass (Can't hit what you can't see)
- 50+ mm objective for light
- Proven repeatability for dialing
- No zero shift
- FFP
- Vortex/Leupold style warranty/customer service
- 22x or higher for my top end mag

Which ACC chassis is 3.2 lb? I see the Premiere model and the Elite model. Those are around 5 to 6 lb.

What are your plans with this particular build? Hunting or Target shooting?
Do you want FFP or SFP?
Min power and max power range?
How large of an objective are you ok with?
What type of reticle are you ok with? Christmas tree style or something a little cleaner?
Mils or MOA?

Need more info to give you better recommendations!
 
From personal experience/mistakes, my lesson learned, Not Everyone's eyes are the same, so I would not ever again buy a higher priced scope without checking it out personally at dusk and some distance, low light/distance with my eyes. There is a highly recommended brand that does NOT work well with my eyes.
 
It's not FFP, but the zeiss v4 hits way above its price point. I compared my 6-24 next to my 4-32 NX8 and the zeiss is just as clear and had better light transmission in low light. Purchased mine on sale from midway for a little over $800
