Hey guys,

I've finally decided to try shooting a heavier bullet out of my Remington 700 VLS.

I've never fired a bullet over 75g out of it and It shoots those extremely well. I haven't felt the need to change this load in over 10 yrs.

Soooo, I was looking at the 105g Hornady A-max. This is a dedicated Varmit/ Target rifle and won't be used for big game at all. So, I was wondering if any body shot these out of a Factory 1-9 1/8" twist tube? Will they stabilize?
I can't see why they won't but would be nice to hear from you guys.

I load 105 A-Max in my Sons Remington. They shoot great with 4831SC.

Glad to hear it! I have H4831SC on hand so that may be one of the powders I test. I also have Hodgdon Hybrid 100V, Retumbo, H4895, H414. But it seems that Winchester 780 Supreme lists some impressive velocitys as well.

thanks,

Dan

Hybrid 100V raised velocity but didnt quite group as good. Retumbo shot very well but didnt do any real load development, going to wait until 4831SC runs out.

They did shot best with 4831SC .010 off the lands.

Thanks for the tips! May try Retumbo first, albeit max loads are compressed, I don't care for compressed loads though, that's why I'm considering Winchester Sumreme 780. It's available to me here and it's the only powder with a velocity over 3000fps.

I get 3040 fps w/ 40.5gr or H4350 out of a 24" 1:8 twist worked loads up to 41.5gr with no pressure, pressure signs at 42gr.ES 7~10 fps, lapua brass and br2 primers.

I thought the chrony as off but drop data confirms the speed.

That sounds about right. Since these bullets aren't too costly. I figured they would be worth a shot... Lapua Brass would be awesome, might have to invest in some for mine.

thanks for the reply,

Dan
