Weather was absolutely awesome yesterday afternoon... 45 deg and NO WIND!! (an absolute miracle) So I packed up and headed to the hills to hit some 1000 yd steel.

I took 2 rifles with me: Savage m12 6x47 and R700 7 RM

First rifle up was the lil' 6. Biggest problem turned out to be the mirage, believe it or not, as it was sunny and fairly warm. First shot sailed right over the top bar and the next 3 landed as shown in the pics. Made me smile!

Next came the 7RM. This is the first time I've shot for group past about 600 yards with it. It's had experience on rocks and such past 1000 but I was wondering what a group would look like. First shot hit right edge and second hit 5" lower. 3rd shot was just off the plate to the right, in the dirt. So about a 5-6" average, not bad for the elk-killin' stick. (too bad it wasn't in the center...)

Felt good to stretch the distance in the nice weather.

Rifles:
Savage Model 12 (shown in pictures)
6x47 Lapua, 30" Lilja, Shrewd Brake
B&C Tactical Stock, Leupold VXII 6.5-18x40
95 gr SMK @ 3100 fps

Remington 700 (not shown)
7mm Rem Mag, 28" Broughton, Shrewd Brake
HS Precision Stock, Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x50
180 gr Berger @ 2900 fps

1 mile,

Looks as though I'm a good bit south of you, Green River.
I remember making the drive from Yellowstone over the top and into Cody a few years ago, pretty country. You see many wolves?

Only saw one wolf back in the spring. Yep like it up here for sure. So Green Creek is 3 hours from ???
Would like to have someone to shot with.gun)

Well....that would be a over nighter for me then. Still would like to make a trip down that way to gun)
