I ordered a barrel with Shilens 1:9 ratchet for my 338 edge and I am starting to think its going to be too much. I originally thought about messing around with cutting edge bullets (or similar) and they require 220,000 rpm. The 1:9 will give me 216,000 at 2700 up to 228,000 at 2850, and about 20,000 less with a 1:10.

The more I think about it, I don't know how often I will be shooting those bullets, and I will probably be using Berger OTM's mostly. Is the 1:9 going to be too much for the bergers? If its not too much, is it going to degrade accuracy?

I have a 9.35 twist Krieger on my Edge and it shoots in the .1's. I doubt a 9 twist would cause you problems.

That's moving along pretty quickly. If I could get 2750 out of a 27.5" I would be thrilled, but I think that's pushing it.

I'm shooting the 300 Elite Hunter in the mid 2750 fps range out of a 338 RUM, 27" barrel and RL33. You'll have no problem getting that out of your Edge.

I used rl33 in my 338 rum, but retumbo always worked better for me. Rl33 was always quite a bit faster. I used 88 grains of retumbo, it pushed a 285 gr Barnes at 2720 from my 26" barrel.

I love my edge it's shot some get groups all the way out to 1250 yards. With H1000 and the 300 he bergers.

I have 3, 338 edges, all built by bobby hart. Love em, my favorite is a 29" 1-9.5 twist, shooting the cutting edge 265gr MTH at 3150fps, .820B.C., it likes RL-25.My go to rig for long range hunting out west.
