6.5 prc h4831sc Barnes 127 LRX

I should add, I was getting sub moa 5 round groups at 200 and 300 off a sled today. (average around 0.82 moa between the two groups, and that's factoring in some wind variability there, though not much). Seems pretty good to me, but I'll repeat, fairly noob at this.

I also finished shooting my 100 set of brass, so I'm excited to anneal (first time doing that, got the burstfire 2 case prep center (I know induction is better, but for my level of hobby that was too much money, as it was I got a refurbished one)). I'm hoping that after resizing I'll get way more consistent neck tensions as mentioned. In my estimation, the fact that I could tell the difference in resistance seating the bullet just by feel means its not super consistent. I was getting an SD of about 18 today for 5 shot groups.

I will say, this has been a very insightful thread. I appreciate everyone's willingness to add the input. With the updated data today, I'm thinking I should be reasonably happy with it. Am I getting that much more if I move from say 2880 to something like 2960? I imagine cracking 3k fps in a 20" barrel would be burning very hot no?

Yes it would be hot more than likely. Take your time developing your load. You're adding variables now by introducing fire formed brass, annealing, etc and this is a good thing but take your time in your process. No need to fire all 100 pieces again. Take 25 and work them, you may be surprised on the 3rd and 4th firing what you find. Keep good notes!

I never said anything was wrong with what you suggested with the exception of your unburnt powder claim.

My data is on my load card and my shooting. It is what it is. Do you even have a 65PRC you're getting your info from? Real world testing? My data, help, and info is tested and proven.
Yes, that is good info, but the Op is shooting a 127gr pill, not something in the 140gr class. Bullet weight is just another parameter, just like barrel length and cartridge capacity and powder. Why is it when you when someone asks for help and suggestion is made that a post has to turn negative. I think I corrected my verbiage about unburnt powder, it just a matter of where it burns.

Can I respectfully both appreciate both of you (Jaygs8163 and ewnanney) and suggest maybe any further disagreement goes to DMs?

JAY, I should have been more clear, the 100 rounds were shot over 2 separate shooting days. I was at about 15 rounds left when I was pretty much done for today, but I went through it just so I can use all fireformed brass going forward. I generally woudn't do that, preferring to save rounds just in case I can't go shooting before I go hunting.

I never was negative, I just don't agree with the unburnt powder claim. I provided him also with data on the 131 Hammer using RL 23 and getting over 3100 FPS.

Good info here for you.

Good info here for you.

Thanks yeah I read those before I started. I actually emailed the author even. Was nice to get another insight. But ultimately he hadn't done my specific set of combination.

I developed 3 different loads for mine and eventually settled on the 144 Berger with h4831sc. I think you've got more in the tank though with the 127 Barnes. Prep your brass well and take your time, ask questions. Good luck to you!

****, where are you that considers 77 F as warm 😄. Hell, that is our morning low in NE TX.
We had a cold front blow through so our morning low is 70 here in NE OK. 56 grains of H4831 got me 2820 out of my 20" barrel with 140 EH's, and H1000 at 59 grains got me 2960 with the same bullet from a 22" tube. Every barrel is different.

I worked with that bullet with a friend for his wife's elk hunt. We were using H1000
and did not encounter any pressure signs at and slightly above Barne's published max. I am not suggesting that you change powders but you may have some room to work up with caution of course.

H4831sc & Barnes 127LRX @ 3,160fps, Fed Gold 215m primer in once fired Hornaday brass, Sub .6 moa 10 shot groups. Just keep your Impact velocity above 2000 fps for harvesting animals.
I run that set up in my 22 inch 6.5 PRC and it shoots awesome and very accurate.
I have been using this for a while and taking many extremely Large wild boars and Blacktail deer.

Yeah with Barnes PRC technically it can go down to 1600 fps if I remember correctly, but I hear you my plan was to consider 1900 fps the bottom end of killing velocity which seems to be just north of 500 yards with my current setup. Perfect for my hunting needs.
