so my rem 700 .308 trigger (stock walker type)is failing to reset after releasing. had it set at 2.8# w/good sear engagement and min overtravel. was working great as my cmp vietnam war sniper rifle. then, out of nowhere, it stops restting. just flops around w/no sear engagement. what could possibly be the problem? did a complete disassembly and clean, reassembled and the problem persists . note that this is my first attempt w/rem triggers.
mostly use winchester/savage for long range, but cmp says i must use rem 700 w/min 2.5# pull.
any help appreciated.
thanks

You'll probably have to bump it up to minimum 3#. I've tuned a lot of them and below 3 will usually follow down if you slam the bolt hard. You can try giving it a little more sear engagement first.
When you say you've cleaned it, have you removed all the internals ?

yes removed the internals, cleaned everything thoroughly, and reinstalled.
the issue is the trigger is just "flopping around" and does not reset to the sear.
this happened out of the blue. was working fine for quite a while. it's as if there is a spring missing to push the trigger back, but there are only two springs in the trigger and both are working correctly.

I would remove all the screws too if you haven't already and clean all the threads. Then run them all the way in and out. Readjust after that and see what you get. If the trigger is flopping, the connector isn't moving back keeping in contact with the trigger.

Not likely the connector developed a burr on the sides. It might be possible the trigger housing itself got some rust inside or possibly some solvent that solidified.

fixed the issue. problem was with the spring hanging up due to a burr inside the housing.
now back to working properly.
may invest in a timney trigger to eliminate further problems.
I have replaced 2 with Timney Calvin Elite, the other 5 Remington's I built have Trigger Tech Diamond, these feel smoother and break like a glass rod snapping. Best trigger I have come across of late.
I also have Jewell triggers on my SA Rem 700's.

Cheers.
