Scope recommendations Marlin 1895

I'm gonna be the minority here I think, but for that cartridge, those ranges, and being a lever gun, I don't think he should put any optic on it.
See, here's the thing... A 276gr Hammer Hunter at 2200fps from an 18" barrel zeroed to ¾" high at 25yd gives you a dead hold to about 250yd on an elk. I've ran the XS sight system and it was great, but a 2-7 power that close is just as quick at target acquisition.

"IF" it's a pretty good scope……I can see the crosshairs better than I can see irons in poor light! Maybe that's just me! memtb

I use mine out to 200 yards so I use either a 1-4 or 1-6 power. Usually it is Vortex. At the range you mention I would not even put one on it. I think I might try some Skinner sights on it and forego the scope. My eyes are less than young so I need the scope.

I have this scope on my 350 legend bolt gun. Its great in the woods. Reliable, and going from true 1 up to 6 power is really nice. You can spend more, you don't have to for most hunting. If you call instead of order online they will most likely beat amazon and any other online site in prices.

If you want to spend more you could look at the Trijicon 1-8x28, they're nice and occasionally go on sale or have demo/open box for around 950-1k, or used for around 800-1k.

I have a Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4 on my 1895 Guide Gun and it's working fine so far. He will like the GG it's very handy and mine is very accurate. The model I have is the GBL laminate stock and non ported.
