As with many things it really depends on how you will use it.
For me, and for how I hunt, desert southwest . I find the Outdoorsman tall aluminum with the gen 2 pan head to work best. I use it 99% for glassing and 1% shooting. I have guns with ARCA,and picatinny rails and Spartan magnaswitch cups, the pan head works directly with AECA and picatinny or with an ARCA to Magnaswitch male adapter.
I have owned Swarovski carbon, Really Right Stuff Carbon Ascent and ball head, Tricer Carbon and Mondetteo Aluminum. The RRS set up was the most stable for shooting but overall the Outdoorsman's is the lightest, fastest to set up, smoothest for glassing, and best for glassing while standing,
The Tricer is the best low cost solution but inferior to the Outdoorsman in actual field use.
