TC Contender Gen 1 pistol

I recently purchased a TC Contender pistol with a super 14 barrel and it is scoped
I want to use it to hunt deer here in Michigan
So I bought a .41 magnum ten inch barrel
Most shots that would be taken are generally under a 100 yards, always had an interest in these pistols I am looking forward to giving it a try 👍View attachment 587845View attachment 587846View attachment 587847View attachment 587845
I picked up a another contender barrel a ten inch .30-.30 octagon
With the snap on walnut forend
I have been looking for this configuration for a long while
I finally discovered ELDORADO! 😁

I used to have a 10 in. Octagon 30-30 barrel. 10 in. Bull in 44 mag .41 mag . 45 LC .10 in. Octagon in 218 Bee and 221 Fireball. Think in 22 Hornet also. Super 14 bull in 35 Rem. (Just sold it and 44 mag 10 in. Bull) . All I have let is the 21 in. 30-30 bull barrel and 21 in. Bull 25 Bullbery barrel for TC Contender.
The Encore I only have 6.5 Creed and MGM 6.5 PRC barrel now. I sold 28 in. Hunter 243 barrel. 21 in. 460 S&W Katahdin barrel .
I used to load my 45 LC loads so hot it kicked more than 44 mag . Both 10 in. Bull. Im betting it was close to a 454 Casull. It was wicked.

I always wanted to get a 26 in. 460 S&W Encore barrel integral braked. I almost pulled the plug on one from MGM about 7 years ago. Instead I bought the 460 Kadahtin barrel of a guy on ebay for $250. They are either 20 or 21 inches.
They have a little kick to them.
Better quit robo57. You're getting me interested in TC barrels again.
😉
Looked it up. 20 inches. Was fluted and stainless.

I know its an Encore not Contender...
Found a post from 2020 from
J E Custom. I sure many here remember him. He was Heck of a man 😔
He was testing 460 S&W barrel length differences, etc. before he passed.
I told him when he was done I wanted to buy one from him. We stayed in contact by PM. I know we all miss him. Here's the post.

Thought I would post the results of one of my latest projects. After building a bolt action 460 S&W with a 22" barrel and finding that the cartridge has more potential, I decided on a 26" barrel in a TC Encore to save overall length.

Using the 200 grain Hornady factory loading I found 500 ft/sec more velocity in the 22" barrel than in the 8.5" HVR pistol. Chronographing the new barrel during brake in basically told me that 26" to 28" is optimum barrel length.

Here are the velocities in the order fired. (All shots were cleaned before the next shot was fired).

1 = 2978 ft/sec
2 = 2981 ft/sec
3 = 2997 ft/sec
4 = 2999 ft/sec
5 = 2992 ft/sec
6 = 2992 ft/sec
7 = 2897 ft/sec
8 = 3004 ft/sec
9 = 3004 ft/sec
10 = 3015 ft/sec
11 = 3012 ft/sec
12 = 3026 ft/sec.
Once it broke in to the 3000 ft/sec velocity range, all velocities remained very close for factory loads.

The 22" barreled rifle exceeded 2900 ft/sec by a little and the 26" barrel did the same at 3000 ft/sec. 4 more inches only produced 48 ft/sec more after break in so I think it reached the optimum barrel length

The next step is to load and test the 300 grain bullets and the 325 grain bullets to see if the longer barrel length will benefit the heavier bullets and gain more velocity percentage.

Best accuracy with the Magneto speed attached was .757 and should improve with it off and more attention paid to accuracy.

Hogs beware !!!!

I have that Katahdin bbl. too. Companion to my Taurus Raging Bull 454 Casull for elk hunting. I think of them as "almost 45-70s". (I have several companion caliber sets I like to hunt with) Contender or Encores in 22lr, 22mag, 30-30, 357 mag & max, 44 mag.

I like that I can shoot 460, 454 and 45 colt out my S&W 460 XVR. 45 Colts are no recoil at all lol.
Do they make just a 454 Casull Katahin ? I dont even know or is it a 460 S&W barrel ?
Thanks.
I have a Ruger Super Redhawk 9 in. In 454 Cassul.

I don't remember seeing any but the 20" Katahdin when I bought mine new on ebay a few years ago. Would be cool, maybe blued with wood stock. That would go with my Puma '92 454 carbine.

I picked up a .44 mag barrel with a screw in choke
And elevated rib I can shoot .44 mag shot shells through it
Or "RAT SHOT" loads should be a HOOT to shoot!
