Contender Pressure

I put together some 30 Herrett ladder load and shot them today. I was shooting 125gr sst's from a 14" barrel. I got to 2300fps with no pressure signs on the primer or action opening. I stopped as I figured it should pressure out before 2300 fps.

So how will I know I hit pressure?

I always watch extraction on the tc. It will get sticky when you are over.

That's the thing. At 2340fps, they popped out with little effect. Primers looked fine. I think I will pull some and shoot it again. Looks like no pressure though. I seriously would have shot more normally, but seeing how the velocity was, I kind of freaked out!

The 30 Herrett was awesome. Just so light recoiling!

Some barrels are just faster than others.

Add more powder

Case fill was like 78-80%. I jumped to AA1680. Case fill about 90%. Performance was more consistent.

AA1680 was pretty good in my ladder tests. 3 rds into 1/2" at 50 yds. That is with 3 different powder charges. No pressure signs at max. Probably should try hotter, but we'll see how this shoots.
