Why does it seem so dead in the reloading forum?

Why does it seem so dead in the reloading forum. If I knew a conversation starter, I would bring it up. Just seems like there is very little participation. Everybody get mad at each other? Did people move on to other forums? I usually check the forum everyday at lunch and again after work and I have disappointed that there hasn't been much of a discussion going on.
The dead spot in the reloaders forum is that nobody can or will agree what works. I load for my rifle, you load for yours. While performance may be similar, we are shooting different rifles, which means different ammo.

A lot depends on the discipline we're shooting, short range guys can throw charges while long range guys weigh powder to the kernel, prs guys live and die by low ES/SD numbers while target shooters only care about group size or score. Hunters want dead animals. Sometimes things over lap sometimes they don't.
For myself the target is king so things that don't change or improve the target get left behind.

You are probably right but, we can still learn from each other. I do agree though that it does help to understand each others discilpline to understand where they are coming from.

I think there's a little bit to much negativity on the "reloading is dying/kids ain't doing it anymore" in this thread. My family didn't hunt, I wanted to so we learned. At 18, 2 decades ago I taught myself to reload off this site and YouTube in the early days. People are out there, so negative. I'm a precision Nazi with my bolt guns, the second I learned I could tailor rounds, I was in. I do agree most threads are just asking for experience on combos, hence my evil AI admittance. It's not going anywhere.

SADLY......🤔.....??? More for the rest of us...kids have been brought up so pampered the last 28 years...they all believe today they are ENTITLED.....too lazy to work and reloading when you start is work....why make a burger when it only takes two minutes at a drive thru?
What?! 🤣

Well, all I can say is, I am sick to death of hearing the same dribble preached as if it is gospel, but, is in fact wrong and a myth.
I guess the old saying that says repeat a lie often enough, and it becomes fact, is true.
I no longer have the patience to repeat myself on threads that continue to repeat the same misconceptions and un-truths.
I could write pages on stuff that is told that is false.

Anyway, I see many forums are dwindling, most I don't even visit anymore.

Cheers.

"You did it what way? Are you out of #£*+¥£&@$ mind? NOBODY is that $@&!%#£€¥+%# stupid." Just might be the reason IMO.

My apologies for the long response.

I started this thread (https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/xx-years-of-reloading-experience.396626/) because I see many threads from people who claim they have been reloading for years. Yet they cannot troubleshoot their own problems, some of which are obvious, and some of which lack the essential information for members to help with. Online troubleshooting is hard enough; fishing for pertinent information is hard enough for those who honestly try to help. And for some, being corrected offends them, so I know exactly what Brother Tony (@MagnumManiac) is referring to, and I'm in on some of those discussions.

Yes, sharing information and helping each other is what this forum is all about, but I pick and choose which battles to get involved in and which approach to take (thread or DM discussion). A year ago, a new reloader asked a simple question about reloading information for his .308 Win. He was inundated with irrelevant information that was overwhelming for him. Luckily, I found out he is a young, nice Airman with a family of four stationed on my base, and just a block away from where I work. Some of those recommendations were beyond his financial reach. He came to visit me, and he came prepared to take notes. He showed me his range results, and he was happy with them. I was probably happier than he was, though.

Most recently, I connected with a new LRH member, @Nicster24, who is also stationed at my base. For starters, we discuss no-BS, unbiased recommendations, and hope to share some range time with him soon. He shared some of his goals, and I told him to contact me when he is ready. We exchanged cell phone numbers and work e-mails. Nico, hang in there, buddy. Cheers!

You sir, win the internet for the day, with this post!

My personal experience has a couple aspects to it. First, it's spring time where I live, so I'm super busy with yard/ garden/ outside chores. I don't typically reload much in the spring. Second is that 12 or 14 years ago I got my first new rifle (i had run a hand me down for 25 years). That was a 6.5 SAUM. I was reloading about 3000 rounds a year between that and my 22-250. My 22LR was still setting a lot of love. My two center fire cartridges were running on average $0.25 a round. I bought thousands of Nosler 140 HPBT seconds for like $0.12 each, and the 35gr Varmagedon were also super cheap. Primer and powder was a few cents a piece. Right now powder is $65/lbs which is like $0.50/ round, bullets are basically $1.00each, and primers are $0.1 each. So I'm looking at, on average $1.60 that would be $4800/ year!!! Not the $750 per year it used to be. My larger stock piles have dwindled and I have to but new product and I just simply can't afford that, or justify it.

Myself I haven't heard any lies , maybe some misconceptions or different requirements from discipline to discipline but I can't recall any outright lies.
My list of misunderstood topics;

1- velocity nodes
2- annealing
3- ES/SD
4- 100 yard testing
5- 10 shot groups
6- shoulder bumping
7- primer crush
8- tumbling
9- component sorting
10- Shatterlee, Newberry or Audette

Probably a couple more but as long as it's civil I don't mind discussing them and it helps new readers and U Tube searchers understand why annealing isn't always required or why PRS guys need low variation numbers and half the short range target shooters don't own a chronograph. Yet each are at the top of their game.
Anyway…

I shoot only a few calibers, .223, .243, .308, .270, 30-06, .338-06 and .35 Whelen. Hopefully a 9.3x62 soon. I seem to be able to achieve sub MOA accuracy with all of them, which is always my goal. Some of my rifles have never seen a factory round, most notably the .338-06 and one of my .35 Whelen rifles. I'm a stickler for weighing powder charges and using a chronograph. Anyhow, I buy loading components far before I need them, if I see a good deal in a shop or online, I buy them, which for me is key to continue shooting. The China Virus fiasco, didn't slow me down a bit. I like to shoot and I shoot often on my range. I think some of the reason for those not reloading is the actual cost of getting into loading ammo, then buying all the components, the learning curve, etc..

I've tried to mentor some newbies to hand loading, but they all dropped it, they just didn't have the time, money or "want to", to continue with it.
