Between myself and a couple buddies we've ran thru several 6/06 barrels, we don't shoot them for groups, we develope a load then shoot one round from time to time to make sure we're still on.

We use them for chucks, yotes and everything else up to elk.

Barrels have gone from 1700-2500 rounds b4 they up and puke. The vast majority of those rounds are on critters so yeah even if the barrel only last 1700 rounds that's a truck load of killing...

I have a straight .284 on a Remington custom LA and a Criterion Match barrel. Probably the best shooting large bore rifle I have ever shot.

I never cared what others' opinions were about barrel life, cartridge coolness, efficiency, and all that jazz. Personal preference is one of the reasons I never ask what rifle to build or buy. You do not need to justify yourself, stay your course, and have fun with it. All that matters is that you build it for yourself.

Not to upset the applecart but I have over 1000 rounds on a straight .284 in a Remington LA with a Criterion Match barrel made for long modern bullets. It shoots very well still. I'm not following any load manuals as they are not made for modern Bullets.

Oh yea, it has the best cold barrel shot of most any rifle I have ever owned.

Very similar. I like the 6mm's :

Sweet-do you recall the 6mm Arnold? Buddy had one a long time ago, seems to me it was basically a 7 Rem necked down to 6. Sound familiar?

IIRC, it was a 264WM necked to 6mm. Though I never had one. I did have a 25-7mag a long time ago.
