6.5 PRC on whitetails passed 600 yds?

Not with the PRC, but over the past 15+ years I have shot a few dozen whitetail and mule deer between 500 and 1000 yards with the 6.5x284N….a near ballistic twin.
While I have shot a few with the 156gr Bergers@ 2950FPS, the majority have been taken with 140-142 class VLD's(Berger/JLK). Velocities have been 3000FPS
(+/- 50FPS). All had a minimum 1000 yard terminal performance of 1800FPS/1000FPE). This load is more than sufficient to dispatch the heavy Alberta whitetails/Mule Deer….DRT or dead within 100 yards. I prefer the 140 class bullets terminal performance over the 156 for whitetails/mule deer/antelope…..
142gr JLK recovered from 600+ yard Mule deer..Angled behind rib cage, recovered front chest cavity…65% retained weight…DRT
And..A few of my big whitetails past 600 yards..With 140 class bullets ..Your PRC will perform well on whitetails….

Anyone taken a shot like this successfully?
Results?
Bullet selection and performance?
Pictures maybe?
did a moose at 656 yards and a boo at720 with horndy match. only reason is this ammo shoots 5 round one hole groups at 100 yards and the same clicks as my 300 win. I have at doped out to 1270 yards and at that range it will do 4 hits out of 5 on a 15 inch gong as long as the wins stays under 5 mph

I keep saying on here that eldm's are not a fragile, weekly constructed bullet. They are much tougher than a lot of people think.
I did kill a 130 plus doe during December at 300 yards. 6mm Creed 108 eldm at 2950. Shot high shoulder the bullet passed through the middle of the onside and offside scapula and was just under the hide. The deer dropped. I recovered the bottom of the jacket cup and a tiny bit of lead.15 grains total. The penetration was impressive. Wound channel relatively small. There will be a lot more of these shots coming up at the end of May with both 108 eldm's and 107 TMKs.i plan to keep data and some pictures for Fordy.
However, While I have not shot an elk and very likely never will. If I travel anywhere to hunt it'll be for ducks. If I did shoot an Elk it would be with a heavier caliber than 6mm Creed. I know people do it but I won't. Likely the 6.5-06 with 147s at 2940. Or one of my 270s with a 140 or 150 accubond. I don't have a rifle heavier than that. Well 308 but it would shorten my range some. Plus that rifle weighs 13 pounds. Empty.!

We shoot a ton of 6.5mm bullets in various cartridges, from 130s @ 2900 to 140s @ 3200+, to 156s @ 3000+.
600 (as long as the SHOOTER can make that shot) is a slam dunk.

My daughter shoots a 6.5SLR pushing a 130 OTM @ 2912fps, and has killed a bunch of animals from 260 to 771.

You can figure out your effective range by simply using a ballistics calculator. Then you need to practice and tune your calculator inputs for longer ranges so you're dialed in…pun intended.

At the elevations I hunt, I can effectively kill animals OVER 600 yards with a 6.5 CM. I find 99% of the time I can get closer than 600 yards though.

The last sentence for sure is good words, In all my years of hunting I've rarely been unable to close the gap to 400 or less. Rarely is the time where I HAD to shoot much beyond...........

Greyfox - those are some most impressive whitetails you've got there. Congratulations on taking the quality of deer that most of us only dream about.

When you hunt from an elevated stand, as I do, you take them where they are or not at all.

Totally understand, I dealt with that a bit when I was guiding in Sonora, Mex

Other thing is, and this is just the world according to me...but sooner or later the critter just wins and I don't take the shot and I'm fine with that.

Agreed - I have passed up on many whitetails that were out of my effective range, shooting from the window of the elevated box. If I were laying prone on the ground, it would have been a different story.
