Pre-fits…what’s the verdict?

specifically looking at a proof prefit for a 6 creed build. Spinning it on an Origin.

I don't see many drawbacks, the alpha saami spec reamer cut is what I have on another rifle as well and is plenty friendly to loading long.

Have folks been pretty happy with the end result? For applications where a prefit is offered in the length and twist I want, I'm having a hard time justifying a blank and another 400-450 RO chamber/thread.

Opinions welcomed.

I have a proof on an origin in 6 creed and it work perfect. It was hard to argue with the price and ease of use. If you need go - no go gauges or an action wrench let me know. Cover shipping and you could borrow them. I have tried 2 different proof prefits and they are meeting my expectations.

I've got an action wrench, haven't looked for go/no-go gauges yet…but will consider that offer, thank you. Be happy to do that.

Is proof just spinning a prefit on their factory rifles (using an origin too I think)? If so, they guarantee the sendero profiles to shoot 1/2 moa…sender lite 1 moa. Assuming then just screw a prefit on to an origin. I'd be good with that result. Realizing a prefit doesn't come with any gaurantee, but reasonable to expect a similar result with the same prefit/action/factory ammo they test with

Precision guarantees are meaningless. They cherry pick a single low round count group, and if that group meets their guarantee they say it's good. Any half decent rifle out there will put up a small 3 shot group now and then. I couldn't find specifics about Proof's policy but it's probably a 3 round group. My Origin with a Proof prefit in 6.5 Creedmoor shoots about .8 over 30 rounds.

I fixed 3 last year. Over chambered and short chambered. Different manufacturers and different companies

Interesting.

By short I'm assuming it wouldn't close on the no-go gauge? Is that not something proof is checking before shipping? Obviously on the user to confirm before firing, but makes me curious what QC measures they are using.

How would you tell if you have a long chamber, aside from measuring the shoulder on fire formed brass?

Did the manufacturers not warranty their work? I'm curious the barrel owners came to you to fix them?

I wont name the barrels since it wasnt there fault. And dont remember who the chambering was done by. But no actions are perfect and measure the same. Too many variances. Why defiance doesn't show tennon prints. But yes wouldnt close on saami brass for the guy. Others brass was growing longer then saami which lead too inspecting why.

Got it, sorry, didn't mean to imply they were made by a certain company, I'll edit that. But still, id be curious what company didn't warranty that if you would be so inclined to share over DM. If not, I understand that as well. I'd assume there is a reason only certain actions have pre-fits available and if a certain pre-fit didn't pass a no-go gauge, I'd probably be asking for a refund.

I can't comment on the warranty since they were not my barrels I simply fixed them
Just not sure I'm buying why a customer would pay to have a prefit that didn't headspace "fixed". Thats a return, easy. Just trying to put the puzzle pieces together but that one doesn't add up.

I have had a few smiths talk down the idea of a pre-fit, it's cutting into $450 a barrel for chambering. But also known one who shoots them.
