I just finished a 6mm Rem build.
-Tikka Action, long action bolt stop
-Brux #3 1:8 twist finished at 25"
-Manners EHT-A in swamp camo
-Mountain Tactical bottom with billet magazine
-Bolt fluted by LRI in wrought iron patter
-Action and barrel cerkoted a custom 'sand' color to match stock.
-Topped with a Bushnell LRTSi 4.5-18x44
I rented a reamer and gages from White Rock rentals, $50 for reamer and gages for 30 days.
Had a local gunsmith who shot competitively do the smith work.
After quick bore sight, the second shot was hitting the bulls eye. My chrono wasn't working so no idea what speed. Had some 95gr partitions and 105gr Berger hunters loaded up for deer season.
Absolutely love the finished product!

6MM Remington is my personal favorite!
The only down side I will express in this situation is lack of factory ammo.
Since you are having a rifle built from the ground up the lack of factory rifles is not an issue.
I am not a fan of using Match projectiles for game, they work fine, until they don't. I know numerous people will disagree.
I do not know of any heavy weight 6MM projectiles (> 100 grains) that are designed for hunting/game use.
As far as I'm concerned, with modern projectiles, spin as fast as you want, they should hold together. Do you gain an advantage above a 1-9 TR in a 6MM hunting rifle, I do not know, & not sure one would.
I hunt Deer and Pronghorn with factory ammo and the Hornady 95 gn Superformance is my go to.
Although I like I like Remington CoreLok 100 gn ammo as well.
I do hand load 55-75 grain varmint projectiles for coyotes, etc.
LA v SA - if you intend to load the high BC/heavier projectiles @ longer than SAMMI C.O.A.L. then a LA is in order. You certainly won't be limited by magazine length. I have two 6MM Rem rifles, both SA (Rem. 788 & Rem. 700) & I've never felt short changed or limited.
I consider the 6MM Remington a very underrated cartridges and one of Big Green's many marketing mistakes.

Agree with that. Remington dropped the ball on several cartridges.

Hey Just A Hunter, I've owned a 6 Rem for a long time, it's just a plain 700. It shoots the 85 gr TSX's and the 70gr No's BT's into small groups. I'd say you've made a good decision, go for it

This right here. Every bore diameter has a sweet spot for powder burn IMO and beyond that you're at diminishing returns. If feel the creed is the 6mm sweet spot.
To add to that sweet spot theory here's my little 6 dasher running a 105 berger at 2900 over 32.6 grains of varget next to a 243 win.
Were I to build a 243 or 6mm it would be an improved version throated for my desired bullets.
Additionally, IMO, the 243 or 6mm improved would be a real sweet spot for a 25 cal.

That's pretty much what my reply was going to be.
I have a friend who has 3 different 6mm AI. He loves them.
The down side already mentioned is ammunition availability as well as brass availability and brass quality.
With the 6CM or the .243 Win, you'll have lots of options with both.
I'm personally looking to build a .243 AI. I already have the barrel, just need to decide on cartridge.

The main question is: Are you forming cases from 7x57 Mauser? Is someone on a forum selling you half their stash of 6mm Remington? Do you have powder and primers?
