Powder Comparison (N570, H1000, & 8133)

I've been recording all my data each time I shoot my 300 WM and 300 Rum. I've tried three powders in these same two guns. I did a ladder test with each to find my max load and look for flat spots. I graphed all this data and thought I would share with the group. The results seem to fit everything I've read on these three powders.

As always, start low and work up slow. I stopped when I saw pressure signs and plan to load several grains under max.

215M
ABM brass

I'm using 75.5 grains of H1000, 215 berger hybrids in a 29" barrel. I'm getting around 2975 fps. Before I did a tube swap, I was using 73.5 grains and getting 2880 from a 24" tube. I know that's anecdotal but that might give you an idea on how much left there is for that H1000 to deflagrate in longer barrels.

Thanks for info. That's interesting that 5" gave 100 FPS change... the guns I used have 28" and 29" barrels...

I bet that if I was used some custom brass like ADG, my charge weights would be less. I hope to upgrade brass soon

Just worked up a load for the new x bolt max LR in .300

As of now I've settled on 75.5 H1000 with Berger 215 running 2875 ish. Testing out to distance today.

Forgot to mention this is actually FED once fired military brass

What were the case weight you used for the 300wm?

I'm not sure since I haven't weighed them. I'm using once fired brass from ABM factory ammo. I'm sure if I had some thick brass like Lapua or ADG, I'd be using less powder.

EDIT: how is it that I am always getting much faster MV than everyone else on this forum? I am using a Labradar so I don't think its a chrony error. This may sound like a dumb question but- I seat my bullet out until it barely kisses the lands, does that have something to do with it? My wife is using 212 ELD-x in her .300 WM using 71.7 grains of H1000 and getting around 2800 even (26 inch bbl) and she loads about like I do with her bullet hugging the lands. From the analysis I am seeing on LRH, I am getting substantially increased velocities comparatively.
I am going to keep an eye on this thread, maybe someone has an explanation.

I have 300 Win Mag and 200 ELD X with Norma case ,rws primers and N570 in 26" Lothar Walther Barrel 10" twist and I have 3165 FPS and precision max is 3230 fps,all speeds are measure with labradar.
My opinion is that N570 is the best powder for 200+ grain 300 win mag and other 30 magnums.
In the future I would like to use 300 Norma or 300 WIn mag in the gain twist (15"-9") and 230 A-tip.

You're in CO. What's your elevation??

You guys live in a thinner atmosphere than us lowlanders.

Thanks for the data. Did you top out pressure at the heaviest powder charge listed?

My elevation is around 400 ft...

Yes, the highest charge was max pressure (sticky bolt and shiny ejector mark).

I hunt at 700' and 400'. I've always felt cheated.
Guys out west even get away with slower twist rates also...which allows a bit more velocity.
