Hello a new member on here looking for some guidance. i am looking for a no nonsense easy to use rifle scope to hunt with and also shoot paper and steel targets out to a max of prob 800 yards. i was looking at the Vortex pst gen 2 but also looked at the Swarovski V5. I like the simplicity of the V5 in regards to how the yardage turret works and how u don't need to have a turret cut for your specs. i would like to keep from having to use a app on my phone and all the other great stuff u need to use on the real long range scopes. my question, is there any other scopes with good glass like the V5 with the magnification to see well enough to make 700-800 yrd shots clearly not only during the day but at low light conditions. Just keep in mind that my eyesight is poorer then most so i think i need better glass. I have shoot several Prairie dogs at 1k with a less expensive Mueller Eradicator with euro glass on a 223 but it will not hold up to the abuse of the 300 RUM. i was going to pull the trigger on the V5 today because its a swarovski but the one i looked through didn't seem as clear as i thought it should be but we where looking through dual pane of glass at scheels so maybe that was the problem. Is there a scope that will get the job done between the $500-$1300 range or is the $1k range pretty popular for what i am looking at doing? I was hoping to find something that i can put my hands on before i buy it if at all possible. Thanks in advance

I love my zeiss 5x25x50 on 300 weatherby ,ballistic reticles for $1300
I bought a burris verasity for 30-378
Outdoor magazine tested it against higher priced scopes and it won, about $900, havnt got set up yet
I have a $2400 SWARO ,The resolution is crazy at low lite.
I compared it at dusk dark against a $1000 Leupold,Burris ,Euro Diamond Swaro won because of resolution but Burris was rite there with it,10 minutes after Leup.was out. I said then I wouldnt spend over $1500 again. Their are scopes in that range will do anything I want in that price range. By the way,My Swaro is a PH series, before z series

I was in your shoes 8 months ago. I bought a leupold vx5 HD 3-15 with fire dot and I have not looked back since. Is it as nice as my NXS's? No. But in low light I much perfer the fire dot reticle. Kills have been from 200-878 yards. With some paper shots at 1200. I find this scopento beban exceptional value for a hunting scope.

I don't know much about the V5 but would steer you to take a hard look at the Leupold VX6 line in either a 3-18 or 4-24. Very light for what they do, extremely good glass and simple MOA based retical / turrets. The turrets have a very positive lock on the zero stop so no accidental movement and are shorter than most making them handle a little better.

Anyything in the Nightforce SHV line. I have a 4-14×56 with a MOAR reticle on my 7mm RUM. They are a little heavy but are built like tanks with good quality glass. With a good ballistic app, the MOAR reticle is very easy to use.
