700 mil-spec 5R in 308 & 223

Hello guys, I'm new here but have been a rifle nut for a long time. I just purchased two new rifles both Remington 5Rs one in 308 and one in 223. They both have Badger Ordnance one piece bases and rings and the have VX-3 6.5-20x50mm scopes with target turrets and side focus. I live here in Indiana and the weather has been horrible so I haven't fired the first round through either rifle. If any of you have any first hand experience I would love to here about it. Thanks!!

I have one in .308 Win. 24" 10th Anniversary model. Shoots like fire with my handloads.

24-shot group @ 100 yards (shot as a hot-lap with no cooling break). Corrected measurement once you subtract the caliber (.308) is 1.286".

That load, believe it or not, was with brand new brass that wasn't even fire-formed. I was really impressed.

The load is:

Nosler Custom Competition 168 HPBT
Lapua brass
44.0 grains of Varget
Federal 210 primer
C.O.A.L. - 2.810" (SAAMI spec)

I think I'm fixing to buy the 26" 5R .300 WM version as well, so I can have the big brother to my .308. I had the chance to buy one in 6.8 SPC for about $650 used. Should have took it, because I could have used that action and swapped out the barrel to build a custom 6.5 Grendel. I'd like to find a .223 verison to have the barrel bored to .30 caliber, and re-rifled 1:7 twist, and rechambered to .300 Blackout.

Well I looks like I need to pick up some of those bullets and get to loading. If you can't tell I'm getting excited. I just picked up 200 rounds of new Lapua brass and 300 175gr SMKs. I have plenty of Fed and CCI primers but I don't have any 168g bullets. I'm glad you've had luck with Varget because I have plenty of that. Did you have to do anything to your Rifle or is it bone stock?

For 175's I use the same exact specs as for my 168 load. I even use the same powder charge of 44 grains of Varget. Works great in mine.

The 175 SMK's are good bullets, too.

I also have a nasty Berger 210 VLD load, but it's not for the faint of heart, as you have to seat it right up against the lands.

My rifle is bone-stock, but it's fixing to get another trigger put in it, because I absolutely hate the X-Mark & X-Mark Pro triggers.

That's cool! I used to work for a small independantly owned outdoors store here in Alabama, and I always thought it would be cool to own my own gun shop.

If you get any really cheap 700 rifles, that still have good actions, please let me know. I'm also a sucker for ANY Sendero or VSSF rifles you might run across. LOL I have lots of projects and little funds to do them with. Which is why I want to learn to build my own rifles and do my own smith work.

I need 1 blued/jeweled magnum long action, and 1 blued/jeweled standard long action, if you don't mind keeping your eyes peeled. Preferably ones that come with the bottom metal setups and triggers to save some cash from having to spend $150 on a new BDL setup from Brownells. I don't care if they look beat up or not, as long as they're still square, and I can true them for custom builds. LOL

Having owned three Milpec 308, all sub .5MOA shooters, and also wanting the big brother, I picked up an R5 Milpec in 300WM. Like the 308's using either 210 Bergers or Long Rang Accibonds it's as accurate, if not better than the 308's. Cold or warm bore, holds it's POI. I get 2900FPS with the 210's out of my 24" barrel. Cleans fast, and holds it's accuracy for 100+ rounds down the tube(I cleaned it, so I don't know how many shots I could have gone). Screwed an Elk Meadow Performance muzzle brake on the supressor threaded muzzle, and it kicks less than my 308's. I did replace the junk Mark X trigger. The Remington Miilspecs are probably one of the best kept secrets out there.

They aren't a cataloged item. It's a Accusport exclusive. They only run them once a year and when there gone there gone.
