Looking for experience with Norma 300 RUM brass

Those of you who have used this brass, what is your opinion? I've used Rem brass and it only lasts about 4-6 firings with max loads. What is your experience with the Norma brass? Any better?

With the selection of RUM brass available limited to Remington, Norma/Nosler. Unless Federal loaded ammo is purchased for the brass.

I have about 200 rounds down the guns with each.

Remington is loaded for hunting, very hot, the primer pockets start loose and get worse fast. Getting 2 or 3 loads before scrap because the primers fall out.

Norma/Nosler is loaded for LRTarget. Rifle weighs 18.5lb. A much tighter chamber. The pockets start tighter and there is no such primer pocket stretch.

I wish I had data for you from the same rifle for both brands but the rifle to do that with is not in my possession yet.

Your query puts me over the edge to get some Federal some how and see if it is Federal made or OEMed. Tooling marks, flash hole and font of head stamp. If the don't match it's made by someone else.

No Federal brass. All i can find is nickel plated.

Maybe I will get some of Shawn's Bertram 338 for my 338 and size them to 300.Neck might be short...

Thanks for the reply. So I take it that Norma and Nosler 300 RUM brass are essentially the same? Never used Nosler either but read some reports that it is a little soft and not much better at holding pockets than Rem so not sure it would be worth the extra $$ to buy it over Rem.

I'm considering getting the new Bertram made EDGE brass and necking it down and was wondering if the Norma would be any better than the Rem.

3 or 4 loads was all I got with RP brass but they usually got oversized at the web so they wre difficult to extract. I had three different sets of dies and none sized them down........rich

Im on 7 reloads w/338 Norma, some where close to max but I backed off a bit.Still working with one box a bit more just to see?

In my experience, Nosler brass in 300 Rum has been softer than Remington brass. The Remington brass will hold a primer pocket longer than the Nosler will with hot loads. The Nosler brass is also thicker and I had to increase my powder charge by 2 grains when I switched back to Remington. Nosler out of the box is very uniform and consistent but with a little extra work the Remington brass can be trued up and made just as accurate.

I've been loading the 300 Rum since it came out, always Rem brass and still use the original Hornady seater die from way back, my Dillon RL550B press has a toolhead set up with 300 Rum dies from Hornady, Redding and RCBS, that combination works and is set up for 180 gr and 200 gr Accubond bullets, haven't adjusted the setting in years as it seats those bullets to the same oal with great accuracy .
Had the same problem with expansion just ahead of the web ...
I solved that problem by getting a Redding body die, it does not size the neck or shoulder but sizes the case in the web area ..
