Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

No one using Reloader 33 in this yet? QuickLoad shws it to be extremely promising. I've got an 8lb keg for when my 28" CBI Valkyrie barrel finally arrives.

i am running ww brass, brux 9 twist barrel, gunsmith who built the other rifles did load work and drop charts for me to verify velocity

Before you give up I would try some WW brass. The added case volume might help a bit. I am able to run 3 gr more with WW than RWS. But as always work up to that load.

Was you old rifle in 7 mag checked with a good reliable chronograph??

These loads you just tested were they with 180 Berger VLD's or 180 Berger Hybrids?

The fastest 7/300 I have done was a 29" Hart and it got to 3175 with a 180 VLD and 77 gr of H-1000 in WW brass. The shorter barreled 26" rifle was about a 3100 fps rifle. Again it was a 6 land Hart.

shooting 180 bergers 78gr got me 3150fps and 82gr got me 3250fps at about the same pressure as 76gr of h1000. going to do more testing with it. 82gr was like a 99% load for case capacity.

Wow, great numbers there. It definitely appears to be the perfect combination of burn rate and energy density for this cartridge and bullet combo.

Please keep us posted as you develop further. Most everyone so far has stuck with H1000 with a few Retumbo users thrown in.

cummin_un_glued,

What barrel length are you using? Any pictures of your rifle? With performance that you are getting from RL-33 why even bother trying Retumbo?

here is the link to the thread about my rifle and I continue to post my findings in it.

why bother with Retumbo? because nobody can say for sure yet if RL33 is temp sensitive and i'm not done with testing it either, all I have done is velocity testing.

Subscribe to my thread and I will continue to post as I try different powders and bullets in it.

FWIW I got 3150fps with 75gr of H1000 also but ran into pressure before I got to 3250fps so the RL33 for sure gained me some velocity but like I said i'm not done testing. heck I havnt even tried different seating depths yet just powder charges checking for pressure/velocity

Got a chance yesterday to shoot my 7mm Practical. Rounds 21 thru 35 in new rifle. This was the first loading after fire forming 20 cases. Used a CED chrono.
168 Berger VLD
H1000
WLR primer
RWS cases
Barrel is 28 inches.

75.2 gr. 3113 fps
75.4 gr. 3138 fps
75.6 gr. 3156 fps
75.8 gr. 3180 fps
76.0 gr. 3231 fps
Groups were not good but 75.4 and 75.8 were tightest. Going to use these two charge weights and work on seating depth next chance I get. Work is getting in the way of everything. Not much info but all I have at the moment.

finally got to do some ELR testing with mine. I settled on 80gr of RL33 getting me 3200fps average with real good consistency.

3200 fps!!! Holy cow! That barrel wont last long.

I was using 74g Retumbo Berger 180 Hybrid, 28" Krieger barrel 3150fps barrel went south with less then 500 rounds. Its in for a new Bartlein
