Twisted bolts

What are the benefits of a twisted bolt? Is it mainly for appearance because they do look bad ***. Iv shot a fair few rifles but never shot a gun with a twisted bolt.

Mostly cosmetic but a few will argue they have less surface area there for are easier to operate. Personally I like the look but I've had a small twig get in one of the flutes and make it difficult to work and the weight savings isn't worth crap.

It is for function.

It helps it to operate if it gets dirty or muddy as some of the assault rifles do under extreme
conditions. it is also good for snow or icy conditions.

Most of us keep our rifles clean and free of these problems, so it becomes more for looks.

Also just like jewelling it helps keep some lubricant on the bolt longer making the bolt
operate better.
