Everyone I know in my part of the world runs 46 of Varget with 165-168's. This isn't a amount of powder problem!

So just a summary of the rifle and what not it's a Remington 700 currently in an aero chassis so it runs aics mags. I have 2 from Magpul and I have 1 from MDT W/ binder plate. It runs well with factory ammo from all mags but my first hand loads loaded at 2.855 wouldn't clear the feed ramp upon insertion of the mag. Once the rounds are manipulated past the feed ramp the rifle cycles well. But I think my best course of action like many of you stated is going to be to try and settle the powder and try to seat deeper. Also out of a 20 in tube I'm not getting complete powder burn so maybe even back the charge off as to not waste powder as well!

Seating deeper will increase pressure and may help efficiency/burn cleaner.
No kidding, that what I was telling him. I run 46.5 with one of my 168's. The OP is newer to reloading and if you read the details of his post he's worrying about compressing the load.

Yes I'm pretty much scared of everything lol a good friend of mine that I consult frequently tells me not to worry so much but I can't help it. I'd rather be safe. But from what I hear from everyone here, I should probably experiment a touch more. For me if I hear one grain crack I'm already nervous. But I'll keep messing around!

If you can get your hands on some H4895 it might suit you better.

In my 20" barreled AR 10 762x51 I have had really good luck with AR Comp and just about any 168 grain bullet you want to put in it. Runs around 2640fps. It's by far the most accurate powder I've tried in that rifle. It shoots .375moa out to 600 plus yards.
I've also had good luck with H or IMR 4895 and IMR 4064 in it and my 26" barreled 700. For the 700 I run 46 Varget or 45.8 Imr4064 for 168s and 46.6 Varget or 43 H4895 with 150 Accubonds running 2920fps

Has anyone ever had issues with fl sizing? I have tried on federal once fired brass and at times from stroke to stroke I will have widely varying shoulder bumps. I am a going to attempt this on my once fired alpha brass but gosh will I get upset if I ruin a bunch of once fired brass. I have a Lyman all American 8 press and I'm using the black box redding fl sizing dies.

I haven't had any issues with shoulder bumps with my 308 Win and Federal brass. Are you using a Redding shellholder with those Redding dies? What lube are you using?
Federal brass totally Sucks, weak case head. I get the brass once fired from Swat teams, fired in a Bergara. Primer pockets just do not hold up on many of the loads I shoot. If you keep the velocity around 2600-2650 with AA2520, you have the best chance of saving brass. Accuracy nodes with IMR XBR 8208, Varget have opened up the primer pockets quickly with 168 and 175g Bullets. 42.0g of 8208 with a cci 200 in a Lapua case with the 175g TMK just barely touching the lands is 3/4 MOA at 300 in two Krieger 11/12 twists that I have, and I need to shoot a hog with this bullet to see how it expands, shoulders, head, and lungs.
Lake City brass has off-center flash holes and tremendous burrs on the inside of the flash hole to contend with. LC Brass is strong but will take a different load than Lapua brass, so does the Federal due to case wall thickness.
Perhaps the longest barrel life in the 308 is with 2520 due to the Heat Index of the powder, but you have to be able to contend with temp/pressure swings that is exhibited with 2520. Our temps are moderate where I live, so we can get away with more on using NON temp stable powders.

Federal brass isn't great, but it's adequate and I've made some very accurate loads with it. I guess it all depends on who's loading it. In any case if you are getting varying shoulder bumps the common causes are lube and or shellholder contact with die. You might consider the Redding Competition shellholder set for more consistent shoulder bump.
