Some Piece of equipment you feel is overly hyped

Something already mentioned, but scent sprays and other products.

Admittedly I used them for awhile. One day elk hunting, we saw a group of deer on the trail. Wind was in our face we got within 50 yds with the wind still in our favor and they saw us approaching but didn't seem to care. The wind swirled and all of sudden blowing from us toward them and just like quick they looked up and were gone.

I always knew to play the wind, but the reality that this scent stuff was a bit of a gimmick hit me. When I hike the better part of the day, I sweat, and am sure I stink to high heaven as far as the critters are concerned.

Since then I simply wash hunting clothes in unscented natural detergent, hang dry. So I don't smell like tide. I also use unscented all natural soap and deodorant. Toms is a brand that I find at the grocery store, so nothing special.

Using the wind is far more important.

I know there will be people who will disagree with my list, but here goes….
Tikka rifles - over hyped and just feel cheap when shouldering them.
6.5 CM - the king of over hyped
RL26 - only because I can't ever find any and temp sensitivity.
Nosler Brass - too soft and pricey
Fierce Rifles - don't get what you pay for.
Night Force Scopes - I get that they are very durable, but they are heavy as hello and have meh glass.

Berger bullets
Nightforce Scopes
Tikka rifles

I'll second borescopes. Mostly all the BS that's preached about breaking in barrels and making people think they need to go to confession if they don't purify their riflebore every 37 rds or whatever they're into. 🙄
They're simultaneously one of the best and one of the worst things that have hit the market. If you're having problems they're a great tool to help diagnose the issue. They're also handy for gunsmiths who want to visually check their work since they typically can't do real precision testing before sending it back to the customer. If your gun's shooting well they're just a way to find "problems" that don't really exist.

'Nother thread reminded me of one.... swfa scopes specifically the fixed power ones.

They were a cool piece of kit two decades ago when very little was a reliable dial or widespread ffp. But these days it's mostly internet lore as opposed to its spec sheet keeping the masses interested.

Been there, Done that. I couldn't agree more. Seems like we all have to experience to be true believes.

I think a lot of the modern superalloy knife blades are overrated. I might just be in a bad mood after spending an hour on my stones last night to sharpen up my EDC knife last night. I like that I don't have to sharpen it often but it really sucks when I do. I can get a great razor edge on some of my old knives in a quarter of the time. Probably have to sharpen them more often but it's sixes I bet on time spent. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I've always thought I was pretty good at using flat stones but anytime I work on the superalloys I question my skills. I'm hesitant to cough up the dough on a wicked edge sharpener but it might relieve my stress 😂
