6.5 haters

I was one of those 6.5 creed haters for many years…until I bought a custom 6.5 from somone needing cash. Could not pass up the deal. After just target shooting it I fell in love with it. Longest shot so far on a whitetail is 960 yds. With hand loads 143 gr. ELD-X. There was no tracking needed.
Well here's you something to wet your whistle

I think the 6.5CM is a great cartridge shot by some who sometimes make bad decisions with it. Which is no different than other cartridges without the "fluff". Know the cartridge limitations.

I truly like 6.5's but just don't have need for one with the cartridges I shoot from .243 to 300WM. The 6.5 list of cartridges is great selection but I have a cartridge that will do job. If just starting out, I would recommend starting with 6.5's just because of efficiency of components. You can't go wrong.

As for the deplorable (😁) .270Win? Browning recognizes the fast twist by offering 1:7.5 tw for the .270 which changes the cartridge dramatically. No different than what the .260 should have been initially. Don't blame the cartridge, blame rigid minded rifle manufacturer bean counters. There is no doubt the technical design ballistic engineers prob wanted faster twist but retooling costs got in way. Many other cartridges fall into same category. Why isn't 300WM 1:8? Same goes for 7RM, .280 and so on. So many cartridges should have had faster twists but $$$ got in way. Many other cartridges will be significantly better if given same design considerations. The action length is background noise IMO.

The recoil argument gets ridiculous. If recoil is YOUR problem, don't assume its everyones problem. I shoot 1 1/4 oz slugs off bench and no issue. Recoil is like how heavy your rifle can be cause its too heavy for me. Heck my size 16H Irish Setter Elk Tracker boots weigh more than most rifles.

I like your comment about the .270 Win. I see this often with the 280 AI.....manufacturers are trying to force everyone to a 1:9 twist rate which really doesn't work with 160gr and above bullets. But loading the 280 AI with 160 - 175gr bullets with the right twist rate makes this one shine.

I have no issue with the caliber it self. I love my 6.5x47. I don't think a 6.5 is a good LR elk caliber. Thats just my personal opinion. It's SOME of the goobers that buy it thinking they can shoot 1000 yards out of the box because Hornady said that's what it's designed to do. I love hornady bullets. Killed lots of stuff with ELDX bullets. Hornady and Christisan Arms are two of the worst marketing schemes in long range hunting. I see these tards at the range all the time. Shooting their 7lb CA in 6.5 creed or 6.5 PRC out of a lead sled at 100 yards calling them selves a long range shooter because they have a CA rifle chambered in a 6.5.

Some of the marketing in LR hunting and the millennial crowd that believes it is why we get such a bad name in the hunting community. I've had to finish the job of these so called "LR hunters". I have them in our hunting camp too. I've even cleaned up a couple LR messes for strangers too. They all have the same thing in common. Marketed gear with no skill. They all seem to shoot the same caliber. Just my observation.

I was the guy that it rubbed the wrong way and my apologies to the group and to Bultinkle--I thought he was being serious....my bad. Unfortunately I have known unethical hunters so desperate to get a shot that they would take a butt shot and it is just plain ludicrous. Thanks

"If" I really want the animal, and know it will likely be my only opportunity…..I won't hesitate to take a butt-shot. Properly placed with substantial cartridge and the proper bullet for the job…..it's very lethal and very quick!

However, I won't even consider it with one of the lesser cartridges nor with fragile bullets!!! Juss keep'n it real! 😉 memtb

I took issue with the creed early on as it was being compared to the 308 win often.

The best, most efficient bullets in 6.5 were being compared to the 1980s technology in the 308. Of course it worked out better. Compare apples to apples, as in the best with the best...they are similar. Buuuut the 6.5 shoots so much easier for me. I have been watching lots of youtube videos with people shooting the 6.5 creedmoor with the intent of watching the animals reaction. Bottom line shoot anything in the vitals and they will probably die. How soon and in this county are important to me. Wide open spaces where you can watch them fall or in dense tree stand type woods, where and how far are a consideration for me.

That said, I have a Savage 6.5 creed I am trying to sell in the classifieds. I don't have a manbun, but would sell it to you if you do:p

Disclaimer: I don't own a Creedmoor.

The '6.5 Creedmoor hype bro' is a straw man. I've been scouring the internet for nearly a decade attempting to find this guy so that I can demean and belittle him for his false beliefs and exaggeration of what it's capable of.
Despite all my efforts, all I've found are rational, level headed shooters that value the cartridge on its merits. And in the meantime come across hundreds (maybe thousands) of guys obsessed with hating on Creedmoor. Most seem to be .3sl0w8 acolytes who are insecure and concerned that their precious foothold on short action supremacy is being eroded and displaced by a more modern chambering that's actually purpose built.
