Monometal Bullet Choice for Elk 6.5 PRC

So I just want to know from any/everyone, what makes the Hammer Brand bullets superior to the Barnes? I have not tried the Hammers yet

You'll get lots of answers; the short of it is, they work.

Expand / shed petals down to 1800 fps (or less but this is their stated minimum velocity). Shedding the nose as multiple petals at higher impact velocities damages additional tissue (more blood loss) while the remaining blunt-faced bullet base continues to penetrate. For a 6.5 PRC you might consider the 129 gr Absolute Hammer. It should get you a MV of >3300 fps and excellent terminal ballistics.

Those things make sense. The Barnes have surprised me a time or two in different ways. I made a bad first shot on a bull a number of years ago and second shot I had to take before he disappeared for a nightmarish tracking job so I shot while bull was moving away. From rear end, right hind quarter 360 yards. 168 TTSX at 2900 MV.
Shattered hind quarter bone and passed through guts and vitals and found against hide inside chest cavity. Stumbled a few yards and fell DEAD. From the "lowly" 30-06. That impressed me.
The same load from a friend's rifle at around 2750MV, buck Antelope broadside under 200 yards DRT but bullet failed to pass through and we found it under hide on off side…….how on earth did the bullet not pass thru the Antelope ?? Odd

Will do….any experience with Badlands vs Hammer?

I use and like them both. Have played with about everything out there always searching for the magic stuff. 😉 I have found the Badlands to be a lot more finicky to load - they really need dialed in. The Hammer will hold together better at hyper velocities, but the higher BC on the BD's gives them the edge on extreme distance shots. If most of your hits are 600 or less, I'd go the Hammer route. They are extremely reliable, forgiving to load, and you can really push them. We are doing 3,470 with the 124 HH in a PRC. Really knocks stuff hard.

I think OP is concerned with their possible blow up on up close and personal shots…
That's why I responded as such in #10. There is no need to complicate it unnecessarily.

My son harvested an MT buck with 215 Berger under 100Y out of my—300 WSM without any issues.
The 215 was being propelled at 2850 FPS.
