Is there one brand of primer superior to others?

At one time in my life, I'd said "yes" there are, but... these days with primer improvement over the years and choices, just pick one and be glad you found it. Cheers

They're supposed to be the cat's meow, but doesn't always come true. Mostly due to others following in the same train tracks. Now being derailed off of cci and will be finding out how br2, win8 1/2, win8 1/2m and rem9 1/2m will fare against other proven rounds. Looks like square 1 for me! I've also never used any #34 or #41's before. I've only used 200, 400 and 450's in AR's.

It always comes down to what primer works better for your specific combination. I load for four rifles in the same caliber.
1. 180 grn nosler (AB, BT) IMR 4350 max load, Remington 9 1/2 Large RIfle (less than 1/2" at 100)
1. 180 grn TSX, IMR 7828, CCI 200 Large Rifle (less than 1/2" at 200)
2. 200 grn Nosler AB or PT, RL22, Fed215 (less than 1/2 at 100)
Thats my experience anyways.

I'm loading Fed215M for everything. Adjusting charge weight of previous large rifle loads. KISS.

Winchester Large Rifle Magnum and Federal Premium Gold Medal Large Rifle Magnum Match Primers 215M are what I use in my 308 Win,30-06,338-06,7mag,7STW,308 Norma Mag,300WSM,300 Win Mag and 338 Win Mag.I used to use WLR primers in my non-magnum cartridges,but I get as good or better groups with the magnum primers and really didn't see to much change in velocity,so I just buy the magnums now.

Positively not! Switching primers is the last thing I do to settle on a load. There is no predicting which the firearm will prefer.

In the grand scheme of things over many years the primer is the least important item of the loading recipe. I can change primers and not notice much if any difference in the performance of loads. I have also over the years taken to using magnum primers in all my loads. Now before anyone goes off the wagon, all of my loads are and have been developed over many years using magnum primers. I have found that the little bit extra poof that causes the pop to ultimately result in more consistent ignition. My preference is Federal 210M and 215. Same goes for pistol loads. I use magnum primers exclusively with good results.

I did a test two years ago with a 6.5 PRC with same load with Fed 210M and CCI BR2 only difference. The Fed 210 had lower ES and SD . Just one rifle and load so who knows.

The biggest problem is trying to get the different primers to try. I have been working on that for over a year now. Still haven't been able to get all the different primers. Fed's rules state more than 10,000 primers on hand. You can haul 25,000 primer in your car.
Presently what primers you can get are expensive. Use to be around $30 to $40 per thousand. Now they are mostly over a hundred and some place almost twice that much.
I just used Fed 210 and 210M, but have changed my ways. l like to try them all.
By the time you get a brick of each in SR, LR, SP, LP, and shotgun primers, then add Mag primers on top of that. So 10,000 isn't nothing. The other is how deep is your pocket?

The only thing is Fed 210M are match primes, not Mag primers. The FED 215 are Mag primers. It's not that I don't like Fed Primers.

I like Federal Primers too but hard to find and expensive when found.The last time I found Federal 215 primers they were 169.99 per brick.
So I settle on CCI for now but when they come back I will buy and save more than I did before the latest shortage.I have primers saved but not enough to last a long haul.
