One Gun?

Obviously an impossible question but.....
I have a fair collection of interesting rifles.
I HAVE a VERY good 30-06....
Do i "need" a new/different ONE GUN for that potential short notice go to the remotes big game hunt? I.E. short notice fill in for elk/moose to prime area.
Im good to 500yds.
Thinking a 7mm Rem or 300 Win?
Love the STW but looking at availability of factory ammo.
Heavy for caliber bullet guy, not especially susceptible to recoil but a 7 does kick less than a 300....and of course 300 hits harder on the downrange end.
Thoughts?
7mm RM

your absolutely correct on the '06 just really thinking about treating myself to a full on last gun (wont be of course) special/custom magnum. had toyed with a Christensen/Fierce and while great machines they have no spirit no soul. Pre 64 or custom mauser but absolutely LOVE the contemporary grip shape and lighter weight of the McMillan Hells Canyon Stocks.
Actually all good points, But realistically the only excuse you need to get a new rifle, Is the fact that you " Want " a new rifle…. Buy what your heart desires.. You're never promised tomorrow! Just sayin.

ole Red...
factory ammo is what you cant find in Big Piney when you get there and realize your buddy didnt bring his handloads for his 308 Norma!
Quasi Retired is mid 50s with enough to live on but not enough for extra guns so you still gotta work some.
Quasi-retired means switchhing from a paying job to the wife's HONEYDO list.

Dispose of the wife.;)

As for one rifle for pretty much anything; I'll go with my Schultz & Larsen in .270 Win.
I've handloads with bullets from 90-150gr, which covers anything from roe to elk.
Of course having only one rifle strikes me as odd, even here in the UK...

One gun a 300 win mag was all I had for years. Rebarreled it to a 338 win mag, after bought another 300 win mag. Have 2 6.5 Creedmoors now, bought a custom 375 ruger for an Africa and Alaska hunts. Recently purchased another 300 win mag CA mesa that is extremely accurate right out of the box. I would have to say the 300 win mag as my choice for one rifle caliber. But it is a lot of fun to have many different ones to shoot.
