New Rifles: The Good, the bad, the ugly

I have shot a couple of Fierce rifles and they shot well. I have heard some credible results to the contrary. So they are off my list.
For 3 grand I would want consistent QC!

For where and what I hunt normally those types of rifles don't make sense for me. We hunt thick woods and swamps here. Overall length of 40 or less is ideal and 10x scopes are way more magnification than I need unless I am going to the range to ring steel at 5-600 yards. My hunting rifles generally run 20 inch barrels, being a very short guy at 5'4 I generally also have a short stock. Model 7's, 600/660's work well here as do chopped down 760/7600's.

The trends now are mainly geared at western hunters because of the waning popularity of hunting in the east. I could never see a situation in NH where I would shoot off a bipod attached to a rail on the forend of my stock. When I was in NM though…..can't see a situation where I wouldn't need a 24-26 inch barrel and a bipod.

That's a huge bummer, nothing worse than actually wanting something and not being able to get/use that thing. I grew up in a state where most things were and still are illegal, I would sit at the border and peer over at the folks in NH, lighting off fireworks while shooting pistols in the air drunk on cheap liquor they bought state run stores and said "someday Jamie……someday." I moved from MA after grad school and have lived in NM, VT and we settled here in NH. My advice would be to move. When life hands you lemons, don't make lemonade….say "f- these lemons, I'm getting a Dr. Pepper."
Amen on the Dr.pepper

Although I am a big Weatherby fan, I think I would enjoy a close look at the Nosler Model 21. It come with a Trigger Tech Trigger. I have never handled a Nosler Rifle. The rifle I have no interest in looking at is the Lupo. It may be a fine machine, but it's just not a very nice-looking rifle. Just my personal opinion.

The Franchi Momentum and Benelli 828 are also hideous. Italy fascinates me, they make some of the ugliest and some of the prettiest products on earth.

Cases: Fiat Multipla MPV vs. Cisitalia 202
Benelli 828U vs Fabbri IVO
Snooki vs Sophia Loren

Has anyone heard of or have any experience with Fierce? A local gun shop owner here sells them, swears by them. He told me he won't even stock Christensen because of the horror stories he's heard regarding their rifles but more specifically their customer service. I am curious about the Fierce models, anyone shot one?
I just finished setting up a 7mm Fierce Carbon Edge and getting it sighted in for this year. Very impressed with everything about it so far. Love the sako style action, great trigger, and the stock fits me perfectly. Just breaking in the barrel with corelokts and sighting in using factory nosler etips (stupid CA), it is very accurate. Everything has been under their 1/2" guarantee, with the etips grouping consistently around .2-.3". I'm excited to work up a load with the 155 hammer hunters in it, but my wife and I have a newborn in the house so I'll have to work up a load for next year. I still love my pre 64s and old sakos, but for a modern rifle I'm really happy with it so far.

What makes you think Mauser M18 is any good? Guess nobody told those German machinists that a cheap rifle isn't supposed to shoot like this at 300 yards.
Agreed! My Mauser M98 straight pull is as accurate as my custom bolts. Chambered in 270 win using IMR4831 and NABs it will pretty much shoot a ragged bullet hole at 100. As Tbird alluded too, being lightweight and quick handling make it a perfect Whitetail rifle. Especially here in the Appalachians.

Jay, I loke your follow up question. I would love to see the Win Model 70 Featherweight Classic, return in true Super Grade version, AA or AAA Claro or Turkish fancy wood, and pillar bedded for the factory. Also with a set of steel rings and bases blued to the same color bluing as the barrel and action. That would make a good-looking rifle and chambered in 270 Win. I would buy one.

Speaking of rings….the old Buehler rings and bases for model 70's can still be had over at www.vintagegunscopes.com

I actually bought some rare Weaver Imperial Rings and Bases from there.

Also, Lenny have you seen the blued Conetrol rings and bases for the Model 70 🥰🥰🥰 they set my heart fluttering.

That rifle is too pretty to carry in the woods so you could sell it to me and use the money to buy a Savage 🤣
