TICKS & INSECTS!!!!!!!!!

I fear ticks more than I fear rattlesnakes. Neither stop my from getting outdoors with the help of permethrin. Maybe it's time for a monthly human tick chew. After a morning of pheasant hunting, the front of my pants are covered with hundreds of ticks, but not one on either dog. Makes you think.
Hey Jon
Do you spray the Permethrin on your clothes. skin and on the Dog?
I just use DEET Spray because of all the Fire Ants along with Ticks.
Thanks
Len

Let me first say this, this works for me and has for decades.
I've been stung or bitten by just about every insect in Texas from the time I was a kid and in my senior years today and one thing that has always helped take the sting out of any bite/sting was tobacco. I DO NOT use this for ticks though.
When I was a kid and I was bitten by something my grandpa would dab a little Bull of Woods tobacco right out of his mouth onto the bite/sting and in no time the pain and swelling were gone. Ever since then, yes I dip, and I get bit/stung (just a week ago actually) I usually have the tobacco going and I dab a little onto the bite/sting area and in no time the pain and any related swelling would go away soon, real soon.
My disclaimer: I'm not a doctor nor am I promoting the chewing/dipping of tobacco, but you could put a pouch/can in your bag, and if bitten or stung mix up a little with spit or water and dab it on and see if it works for you. Over the decades I cannot tell you how many people I have helped doing this when they were bitten/stung. If it was just me that it helped I can see someone saying it just doesn't bother you very much, but from other people I've used it on it has worked for them too. End of PSA.

When I worked on the pipeline we put flea collars around our ankles over our work boots. Worked for chiggers and ticks.
When I was In the Marines we would put Dog Flea Collars around our boots. Then Orders came down that if we got caught with Flea Collars we would be up for Mast (Court Martial). I guess the higher ups thought that Marines were INVINCABLE and no FLEA could attack a Marine!

My son who is currently a Sgt. Major in the Marine Corps has used all kinds of tricks they used out in the field, especially in Iraq & Afghanistan that I'm sure were not standard issue but worked. btw, he hated the Camel Spiders.
Hummm I did say he's still active so I'm sure I just dreamed he said this stuff.

Thanks for your service Marine.

I'm from Arkansas and still live and hunt here. I Hunt all year round if it isn't too hot. Here's what works. This is for Ticks, chiggers, mosquitoes, gnats, flies, etc. I hunt near ricefields and the highest concentration of mosquitoes anywhere.
1. Spray pants, shirts, jackets and hat with Permethrin (Sawyers and even the Wal-Mart stuff). Let it dry overnight. It has to dry before you wear it. I drench my squirrel hunting clothes and hat with the stuff.
2. When you arrive at your hunt spot, spray PICARIDIN (20%) on your neck and hat. Spray the back of your hands and then rub the PICARIDIN on your forehead, ears and cheeks with the backs of your hands.
3. To keep gnats, flies and mosquitoes out of your eyes and face, smoke a cigar. It really works and I do it everytime I squirrel hunt in warm weather.

Never use DEET. You will eventually be sorry if you do. It destroys, recoil pads, slings, sunglasses, anything with plastic or rubber, including your vehicle's interior. It also melts the paint on yard chairs or any painted surface. It isn't worth the damage to all the plastic used in our hunting gear. That and if you do the above, you totally don't need it.

Went hunting twice last week! Since I've used the above, I have not had a single tick or chigger or even a mosquito bite. Been doing it for years.

So soak all your clothing in Permethrin, let it dry, then treat yourself with Picaridin when you hunt. They may fly around you, but they won't bite you.

Fire ants help with tick control
Don't know where you live or if you have contact with "FIRE ANTS" . These little ants have a BIG bite with bio chemicals that will hurt you for weeks. I get big blisters and tortured pain for weeks from one bite! They are the scourge of the earth and keep invading farther North each year. Came up from South America. The Soldiers "Ants" attack like nothing in the animal/insect world!
