Years ago I used to have a Remington 700 chambered in 22-250 that I shot a lot of prairie dogs with. Time went by and the rifle was rechambered in a different caliber and forgotten about. Recently while going through and old ammo box I came across some loaded 22-250 rounds and that got me to thinking about how much I had enjoyed the round. Now I am thinking about getting a barrel chambered in 22-250 or maybe another rifle in that caliber. Time to start saving some coins for another project I guess

Alot of CHUCK hunters use the 22-250. Some are going up to different 6mms. Chucks are shots mostly in Farmers Hay Fields. You may get 4-5 -600yards shots and sometime more between two fields. -Especially chambering a barrel in a faster twist for heavier 22s.
PD hunters are using anything that is accurate and can get distance. You get in an open Plain and your rifle limits your shots.
Depends on your preference and distance. I have hunted with a lot hunters 22-250, We switched to a 204 with a 39gr SBK and shoots as good if not better that the 22-250

My son was wanting one as he didn't have a dedicated varmint rifle. I told him how there are more modern calibers that he could do much better with. When he separated from the Air Force recently, I thought what better gift than a rifle and in a caliber he wants; not something I talked him into. So that's what I got him. It's a fine caliber and the affordable Ruger American Predator turned out to be a shooter too. Found 200 rds of Norma brass, 300 50 grain VMax's and a set of die's at the local shop and put a bow on all of it. He was ecstatic.

Our prairie dogs are pretty limited these days. Bunnies are plentiful. The 22-250 suits predators & small deer as well. I would like to spin a faster twist barrel on mine though.
I am sure there are several chambering out there that are better now days than the 22-250 but two things keep me thinking about it. One is several hundred rounds of brass and loaded rounds lying around and the other is it was my first "long range caliber rifle". I had mainly used a 30-30 for all my hunting in the Ozarks. when I got out of the service I got the 22-250 to shoot prairie dogs with when a buddy and I could get out west.

You too, eh? I pulled the 22-250 barrel from my Striker a good while back as I hadn't shot it in years. I then realized I liked the little cartridge AND I still had 300 rounds loaded... I'm thinking about whether I should re-install the barrel for one last hurrah, or I should just find me a 22-250 in a truck gun level rifle so I won't grow too attached to it. When the ammo is gone, so goes the rifle I suppose.

I found a varmint barrel, vintage ruger at a gun show a couple years back before the nonsense hit.
First load I tried was a one holer.

My 22-250 has a 1X7.5 twist barrel, I'm running 75gr Hornady ELDM and HPBT at just over 3200fps and can go to 1000 yards with no problem (except high wind). Also have a good load for 55gr bullets but really like the 75's. Longest shot on coyote so far is 610 yards, just haven't had any chances farther than that.

.22-.250 7.7 twist, 75 Hornady ELDM, several powders in 4350 burn rate. Most underated round.
