Hello all. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or not so if it isn't or not allowed please move or delete
I'm looking for some land to lease or rent or what ever in North carolina or neighboring state to hunt I just found out today our family hunting land that I've hunted my whole life was just bought and will most likely be put in houses my great aunt and uncle past away last December due to covid least that's what the doctors said and everything they owned had to be sold.me and my dad and uncle were not able to out bid the buyer so now me and my boys don't have any were to hunt my dad and uncle have land so it would just be me and my boys and maybe my brother that would be hunting.if anyone on here knows of any land available to hunt please let me know I really appreciate it God bless like I said if this is not allowed I understand no worries

Sorry to hear about your great aunt and uncle. There's a number of companies that lease property nowadays and if you do a google search for the county and state you will find results. The downside is it can be quite expensive but if splitting the cost it may be doable. Unfortunately the days of knocking on doors for permission is not much of a option nowadays. Good luck with your search and there's always the dreaded crowded public land deer hunting.

I appreciate it.ill search on line and see what I can find and yes public land around here is very hard to hunt people just have no respect for wild life or for there fellow man

You might check with Rayonier , Weyerhauser, St. Regis etc. They often lease for hunting. There are others, just google timber companies or similar. Also Hunting leases. Good luck.
Good idea. When living in Washington state the timber companies allowed hunters and campers to use the property. Although I'm sure you would have to pay a lease or trespass fee today. I did see a public land locator in N,C, that can be googled.

Where in North Carolina are you located? The national Forrest land around the western parts of the state are packed with all sorts of game if a man is willing to put in a little work. I killed my biggest whitetail buck ever on the TN/NC state line on national Forrest. Deer, bears and pigs a plenty if you spend the time. The hills are steep and the terrain is rough, but I'd rather hunt it than the best manicured alphalpha field in some deer lease somewhere.

My friend, you have some of the best hunting ground east of the rocky mountains in your backyard. You are very fortunate. You can hunt a few hundred thousand acres of beautiful national forest like you own it, because you do. Don't waste money on a lease, spend that money on gas and camping gear, and you and your boys start training for those hills. You'll become a much better hunter, and going into the mountains and killing an animal where they want to live is so much more rewarding that sticking your rifle barrel out the window of a plywood box and shooting the domesticated version of a deer.

VA has nearly 1.7 mil acres, yes million of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forest and non-re tags are not crazy like here out west. Get some camping gear or a camper as hecouldgoalltheway said and Have at it!
Never hunted in VA before will have to check it out for sure.

Sorry for you losses. I've done the lease companies enough to put a bad taste in my mouth. Greedy farmers just want money. I would download the onx Hunt maps and start knocking on doors or make phone calls.

I found a lot of farmers don't mind but you can always offer help or share the harvest. Your biggest issue is you are a liability so you may want a umbrella policy for property owners reassurance.

I hope you can bond a relationship with a land owner and give your kids the experiences we all love.

OP, I can't speak to where you live and hunt but, out in Oklahoma where I grew up and own land, having doctors and lawyers go to the local "gun store" and buy a 300 Win Mag for deer season was a classic! Why would I need to sight it in, they zero the scope at the store! 🤣

Then we have to deal with the idiots with their 4x4 hunting rigs where they run through gates instead of opening them, letting the cattle out, and making us buy another gate.

Of course, none of them had a lease or even asked permission to hunt our land! If you lived further West, I would be happy to help you find something good for you and your family! 😉

If you want to hunt feral hogs, Texas has plenty but, to be honest, if I was willing to travel that far I would go North for Pronghorns.

Finally, don't discount Rabbits and Squirrels with a good rimfire! While not "big game" with a nice trophy to hang on the wall, those are generally widely available to hunt with lots of fun at very modest costs.

Between urban sprawl and commercial interests, unfortunately, a lot of average people are being priced out of hunting opportunities. Then, when you add restrictions or outright removal of public land opportunities, there isn't much left except for old holdouts like myself with some property.

Best Wishes for a good outcome in your case!
