1350yd colorado bull elk

That is amazing performance for that range and that bullet, I would have guessed that it would have a hard time breaking one shoulder not to mention two. But then, that is why I don't often run my mouth about bullets I don't personally shoot and I animals I don't personally kill.

Dave, my apologies for typing up a post like you had never killed an animal.

There are actually two bones - the shoulder and the blade. The shoulder is a large and tough bone and the blade is of varying thicknesses just like on a deer.

Kind of a stupid thing to say to somebody who has killed a lot more deer than me.

Running a quick Exbal (9000' elevation), 3320fps, and 162gr A-Max. Gives 1950fps fps at 1350yds, with around 1350ft lbs energy.

I've shot several deer with the 162gr A-Max, and even though I got all DRT's - they didn't behave particularly well up close (from a 7mm Rem Mag), but downrange, when they went below 2500fps, they did pretty well. I never shot an elk with one though.

Nice shootin.

Great shooting.

I have also used the Amax extensively (162 7mm and 140 6,5mm) but on smaller game.- To be honest I wouldn´t have dared to shoot an elk with the Amax, at least at closer ranges.

I am glad they worked well and this seems to offert the Amax a wider range of posiibilities.

Truly amazing!!!
1350 is a looooooooong way!!!
what else can I say?
Awesome shooting!

BB, no apologies necessary, i actually learned what the shoulder bone was. yes i've butchered more than 150 deer myself and have a pretty fair idea where the bones are. but i always wondered what busting the shoulder meant. like i said, deer don't have a shoulder like we do and this never made sense. now i know. you're breaking the "upper leg bone" LOL

What is the reason why you wouldn't at close range?

That's interesting. I owned a Leica once and hardly ever reached to 1200. I do know about inconsistencies like that with different brands of range finders. Hopefully them things are not frying people's eyes.

Mike, because my experience with the amax has been that it does not achieve pass through in all cases in small -medium game.- therefore I would not until now :)) have chanced an elk hunt based on an amax... what if had to take a close shot??

I am not saying it does not work, and am happy it did in this case.
