Is it possible to vaporize a Nosler Accubond?!

When you are talking about "Vaporizing" you should be talking about the bullet separating from components (copper or metal jacket and Core-Lead or other type metal). Not so much from FPS as in Velocity but looking at the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) which relates to barrel twist. RPM has much more physical effect on the composition of a bullet.

Easy Calculation I posted more in depth info a few weeks ago.
Take your Muzzle Velocity --2800fps Times --Twist Rate (12 divide by :cool:--Times by 60 (seconds in minute) = RPM
2800X(12/8) 1.5 x60=252,000

MV = 2800 FPS
8-Twist RPM = 2800 x (12/8) x 60 = 252,000 RPM

MV = 3200 FPS
9-Twist RPM = 3200 x (12/9) x 60 = 256,000 RPM

EDIT 3/19/22
MV= 4500
7 Twist RPM = 4500 x (12/7) x 60 =46,285,714 rpm or =771,428.56rps REALLY FAST. In fact the lead billet between the copper case may start to liquidity. This depends on the propriety composition of the lead/metal core
There is very big differences between 2,800 fps and 25,200 rpm to 4,500 fps and 46,285,714 rpm determined by the twist rates.

I recently picked up a Ruger No 1 in 257wby with a 28" barrel.

I loaded up a pressure test with IMR 7828 ssc and 110gr nosler accubonds.

Below are the results, never had any kind of pressure signs:

69.0- 3,493 fps
69.5- 3,549 fps
70.0- 3,554 fps
70.5- 3,550 fps
71.0- 3,631 fps
71.5- 3,628 fps

*Book max is at 71gr

I'm pretty excited about this gun and load combo. Going to do accuracy testing next and plan to sight in at 250 yards.

Does anyone have any experience with Accubonds at these speeds? Interested to hear some real world experience!
I'm interested in what kind of accuracy you're able to get. That's a very good looking antelope setup. I've considered something like that myself but I've heard mixed things about the accuracy of the No 1.
 
If you're worried about it switch to Hammer Bullets. Zipping 5060 FPS stayed together just fine and great accuracy to boot.

You have really got me interested in pushing a 34gr Hammer bullet into the stratosphere from my 22-243. There's only one thing holding me back; I sold my Oehler 35 and bought a LabRadar which is limited to readings of 4,000 ft/sec. Bummer :rolleyes: 😁

Or much easier math 2800x720/8 = 252,000

The Ruger no 1 can be made to shoot pretty well. My no 1 in 25-06 will put 3, 120 grain core-lokts inside an inch @ 100 using, I think, 54.0 grains of Accurate Magpro. Velocity right at 3000 fps. I should put a Jard trigger in it, but so far, haven't gotten around to it.

I had one in 25-06 and gave it to my best friend. Wish I still had it. Mine was stainless.
 
Nosler pushes even the Ballistic Tips hard to see where they'd vaporize. They're tough bullets. You'll have a hard time vaporizing BT's let alone AccuBonds.

For my .257 Wby I use the 110 Accubond, 73.5 gr. Retumbo. My speeds are a hair under 3500 fps. Sighted in at 300 yards I'm ethical out to 650 yards. Beyond that the numbers for energy and speed drop off rapidly. I've never had an issue with that set-up.
 
Nice! Thanks for the feedback on your 257wby load. I've had good luck with the accubond in other calibers but usually around 3,150-3,300 fps.

This should pack quite the punch on Antelope, deer and predators.

I've heard Retumbo works really well, glad to see some real world numbers on it.
