Is it possible to vaporize a Nosler Accubond?!

I'm working with the RPM limits right now on ordering a barrel for a rifle build. Trying to make it work with the longest solids without blowing up conventional bullets. 300,000rpm is the cut off most are recommending. The Accubond might be more forgiving but would also be more likely to be out of balance too.

For elk size and above I use a Wby 30-378. The recipe for that one is 180 gr. Accubond, 106 gr. IMR 8133, Win. WLRM primers for both. I'm getting 3350 fps and we're good out to 1100 yards. Of course not all rifles behave the same so use caution with my recipes. You know "sneak up on it!"

Again depending on the twist may be around 270,000 - 280,000 RPM. BUCK100 love the 30-378 WBY with the 180 gr super super round with either 50BMG or 7828. Have not tried the 8133 yet !

I recently picked up a Ruger No 1 in 257wby with a 28" barrel.

I loaded up a pressure test with IMR 7828 ssc and 110gr nosler accubonds.

Below are the results, never had any kind of pressure signs:

69.0- 3,493 fps
69.5- 3,549 fps
70.0- 3,554 fps
70.5- 3,550 fps
71.0- 3,631 fps
71.5- 3,628 fps

*Book max is at 71gr

I'm pretty excited about this gun and load combo. Going to do accuracy testing next and plan to sight in at 250 yards.

Does anyone have any experience with Accubonds at these speeds? Interested to hear some real world experience!
Although I never had an Accubond come apart in the air, I have had them fail when hitting game at 3,100+ fps. The bullet acted like a varmint round with explosive damage at point of entry and a lack of penetration.

Very uncommon results from an accubond.

I push 150 grain 30 cal at 3850fps &
165 grain 30s at 3750. They perform great.

My 257 STW is built on a #1 as well. I push the Berger 115s north of 3800 with no issues, and have pushed the 100 gr NBTs to over 4000 with no issues. That being said, it`s not a fast twist either. It does vaporize goats and muleys though.

Stock answer: Try a Hammer. 🤣🤣🤣

oo-oo, that's a purdy one! not often you get one that has wood that nice! had several and haven't lucked out on the wood but they are shooters.

Seen it quite a few times on elk, 140 AB at 3350 from a 270 WSM will blow. Seen more than a few 180's blow down to the base and not penetrate into an elks chest, the only 30 cal AB I kinds trust in elk is the 200 gr, the 338 ABs have seen failures for some reason blowing to bits.

From Australia. My experience was with a standard Weatherby in 257, using 100gn Ballistic Tip, pushed along by 66gn of 2213sc. This had been a superbly accurate and effective load at longer ranges, primarily on feral pigs. I had a surprising chance at a large doe Red Deer at about 30 yards. Did not want to spoil too much meat, so hit her about 6 inches below the ear, central neck.... Got a cloud of fur on impact and the deer dropped to her knees, stayed there for a few seconds before shaking her head, standing up, obviously thinking *** was that!!!??? She, and attendant large youngster then galloped off and were last seen disappearing across the cultivation almost half a mile away..... Collected a double handful of hair, not a sign of blood at all, and obviously never saw them again.... Changed immediately to Accubonds and have never lost anything again, even with the biggest and most mud encrusted pigs, or, obviously, deer, at everything from a few paces to about 400 yards, my self-imposed limit for certain kills... Doubt that there will be any problem with Accubonds exploding, but stay clear of Ballistic Tips, esp at short ranges.
