I Hate Hammer Bullets!

I like and use Hammers, but I wish there was more info on the BC of each bullet. I like how certain companies tell you the BC at different velocities. Just helps if you're loading it in a 30-06 compared to a 300 RUM for example. I still verify drops either way but I wouldn't mind seeing more data on the BC.
Will add I was hesitant to start with Hammers because I was worried how hard it would be to do load development as I had never shot a copper. It ended up being very straight forward and only took 20 rounds.

I wish they had a better BC, which I only imagine being solved by putting a tip on them.

Also some trued BC's come up lower than advertised. For example, myself and another member both got exactly .237 G7 BC for the 7mm 169's with drop shots.

The BC is literally my only issue with them, even though the extra velocity helps out to about 500 yards.

I can almost guarantee the negativity towards Hammers is probably 99% brought on by the cult like, very opinionated hammer following and people getting annoyed by it. IMO.

I don't understand why folks care about what other people do. Live your own life.

We purchased the new Oehler bc calculation system last summer. It got so busy we didn't have time to get it up and running. We will be working with it this year since we have doubled our production capability. It will be more accurate than we can be by shooting drops, but it won't change the fact that bc varies from rifle to rifle. That is the very reason that Oehler developed the system.

We have messed with tips and so far everything that we have tried has made low velocity impacts worse for terminal performance. We will not chase price or bc at the detriment of terminal performance. Nor will we market a bullet that works most of the time. I wouldn't shoot it myself so why would I be willing to sell it? If we can come up with a tip design that doesn't inhibit low velocity performance we will be all over it. I will have to eat some crow but I would eat that crow willingly.

I agree 100%. Terminal performance absolutely comes 1st! That's why I still shoot them 👍🏼👍🏼
 
Price: yes i think they are expensive, but it seems justified. But to say you hate it? One of the great things about hammers is availability. Lower the price = lower the availability. At least for now.

I agree with finding a way to increase BC. Whether its tips or a tungsten base core. Or something new completely i dont care. But look at it this way. If someone comes up with a bullet that performs as well as a hammer at all ranges, but has a considerable higher bc. Thats what im buyin. For me, i hope steve is the one that figures it out.

Just keep trying! You'll get it
 
I wasn't going to reply but I'll bite.

Steve, I don't hate you or your projectiles you and Brian make. I've been on the fence about trying them ever since I heard about them. For me the mental block of the cost has kept me from making the plunge. I do understand why they cost what they do so im not knocking you for that.

I know in the past I've come across alittle negative about hammers. Once again, nothing to do with you or your bullets. I feel your very professional. For me it's certain of the crowd that shoot your bullets that get annoying. Much like alot of people who shoot the 6.5 creedmoor have done for other folks. They beat that drum so hard that after awhile it gets alittle old to listen to.

Having said all that, I hope to one day try your projectiles for myself. I apologize for showing any negativity towards your product. I've repented of that and will do it no more. I know if I had a product I was trying to sell I would not want to be treated negatively.

I just felt like I needed to get that out in the open so folks know where I stand currently.

I've really been thinking about that 120 HH in my 7mm rem mag as a whitetail bullet the past couple days
