.243 bullet recommendation

I shot a lot of coyotes with FMJ 22, 243, 264. Freaking tough buggers run off and die, or get back up and run off and die. Lost more than a couple. I use just a standard cup and core bullet. My buddy shoots and buys pelts to sell so he knows what people are using and the damage results. He said the best ever is a 17 cal and loves the 17 Rem just almost no one uses it. For 22 he said the 60 Partition is the best. All the others he likes a bonded core or standard bullet.

Ok, thx. I'm helping a friend put together a rifle and it's mainly setup for longer ranges and was hoping to find a bullet that would take the twist and fps yet still leave a decent pelt for closer range shots if he runs into them. Another friend swears by the varmint grenades out to 250 but wasn't sure if they hold up to the twist or if I could slow them down enough

I would just shoot a lead core bonded. There is not much to cause expansion and mono's I feel need more body to reliably expand on a coyote. Regular Cup Core will work great and you wanted less pelt damage so bonded for him......uh wait....heck no.....not shooting super expensive bullets at a dang coyote as a intentional load.

I don't know if I've been lucky but the 108 eldm has always entered with a pinhole and never exited … just jello's the inside .

You're not going to have perfect pelt saving performance with a 243 or 6 creed. But the 87 vmax and bthp from Hornady have both done pretty well for me. If you gut shoot or hit other bad areas expect a big mess.

109 Berger Hybred targets work good for me in 6x47 Lapua, 105's not so much.
Bad news is you won't be able to find them unless you are really lucky.

Ya, I'm hoping to get either the 108 eol's or the 115 vld hunter for his longer range shots but bergers seem very hard to find in general. Thought it would be good to have a shorter range, smaller bullet for smaller animals like bobcats or whatever. Maybe run them slower for the fast twist. He's still waiting on the carbon 6 barrel. Crazy times. Lots of new shooters enjoying the sport

I've shot a couple pickup loads with the 58 grain VMax out of the 243 (only shoot factory ammo). IF they are broadside or straight facing I don't ever remember having an exit. Quartering, shoulder/spine, low hits get ugly quick. These are typically big (ND) coyotes and most are150-200 yard shots

I've also shot many with the 70 grain Varmagedon as well. Similar results but wasn't uncommon to get exits. Might be worth loading some lighter ones to try. Holding off on quartering shots can be maddening tho!

Gonna guess your looking at an exit that might not be too bad. Friend of mine uses eldx out of a 6 creed and says typically just a quarter sized exit normally. Some run a bit on him.

One other thing I think I forgot to mention about the VMax is of you hit a bit far back in ribs it's usually pin hole entrance no exit and still drt.
