Federal Edge TLR Issues

Hello, I'm trying to see if anyone else has had issues with this version of bullet and were you able to resolve it. Comments on rifle build, powder choice, primer, etc are not really what I'm looking to explore so thanks in advance.

I have been trying to shoot Federal Edge TLR (version before Terminal Ascent) in my 7mm Mag and 2 300Win Mag. I get consistently low SD (single digit) 5 shot groups and then when patterning the load, I ALWAYS get 1 random flyer in a 5 shot group. No consistency on which one takes a walk on me. I've gone through the entire range of searing depth and load charges and can't get rid of the flyer. The groups tighten and open up as you would expect with those variations but the flyer always is there. I have none of these issues with Berger, Nosler, or Barnes.

I really wanted these to work but am out of ideas. Anyone had success?
Thanks

I have tried TLR's in two different 300WSM rifles in both the 175gr and the 200gr I could get neither to be consistent. They switched to the terminal ascent because supposedly they couldn't get the black nickel which was outsourced to be consistent. They also had more fouling from the single groove so they went to two grooves and the standard nickel plating and apparently it solved the problems. I gave up

Gunwriter Joseph Von Benedikt is a huge fan of these and really likes the 7mm version. I have not tried that one.

Thanks for the info! One thing to clarify, did you use the Terminal Ascent or never try them?

I have a few boxes of Terminal Ascent but didn't want to waste the other components if it will be the same story.

I made up a load for the 7mm 155 Gr TLRs. Even had a buddy kill a large bull elk with my rifle and load. The terminal performance was beautiful. Bullet mushroomed great and did its job at 590 yards. But the make of the bullet just was not consistent. Have you ever measured the base to ogive? I would imagine that you would find super inconsistent measurements from bullet to bullet. If you want to do a test with them to see if it improves your groups, try sorting them based on weight and then sort them base to ogive measurement. Load them up based on that and see if your groups improve.

I tried the 200 grain 30s and had the same issue with a custom rifle that shoots 200 Accubonds, 215 and 230 bergers to an inch at 300 yards without the 1 in 3 shot fliers i was getting with the TLR.

I'd love to try the Terminal Ascent if I can ever get my hands on some 7mm or 30 cal.
