.224 Valkyrie?

I don't have any personal experiences with the .224 Valkyrie. Having said that, I know a lot of people were having issues with it early on. I don't hear much about it anymore unfortunately. It really seemed to have some potential. I'm not sure the ammunition and brass issues have been fixed or not. On paper it looks like an awesome cartridge for the AR platform.

Do you think that a 22 caliber is big enough for deer?

With the right bullet and good shots it's doable. Personally I prefer a 6.5 or larger for deer. The heavier bullets just help with penetration at all angles and it's more bullet to expand/fragment and cause more internal damage. However, the .22s can be used very successful, same with 6mm's.

That is why I like the .270. Use the 150 grain bullet and it penetrates clear through the deer and drops him dead.

77 TMKs are deadly on deer. 2 bang-flops this past season. Though very limited data, the two 77 TMKs I took the deer with behaved like Berger hunting VLDs. Pencil in for about 2 inches, then explosive fragmentation. Remaining cup and core embedded on the skin on the other side. Before skinning, unless you know where the shot broke, the entry hole is not obvious. There is no visible trauma.

I will not hesitate to take a shot on a whitetail inside 200 yards with them.

Have you taken the 77s long? What kind of long range performance could I expect?
Not looking for a deer round, more of coyotes/wolves/prairie dogs.
I have not taken the 77 TMKs on long range shoot, but for mid range, 300-600, the precision is good. You can run the ballistics and see what kind of retained velocity and energy based on your rifle's chrono data.

I finished my Valk during the Covid shut down .. I have run 75gr Fed Factory ammo through it and some 90 MK Factory ammo. I have a few loads worked up and I am waiting for the warmer weather. I built mine on a Stoner upper, a PSA lower, Wilson combat 6.8 BCG, Wilson Combat 24" 1:6.5 twist fluted barrel. Aero 15.5" M-Lok free float tube, Luth-AR Precision stock & JP Enterprises full capture spring. It holds a 1" group with the factory 75gr ammo. I burned a bunch of the high dollar ammo before I figured out the hitches. Gun runs great now. I think the barrel is starting to get broke in.

Could you possibly share the hitches and fixes?

Thanks for the interest,
So, since that time this is what I have done.
I finally was able to get to the ranger and work on the all the different load combinations that I had.
2 Powders (CFE223 & Powder Pro 2000-MR)
7 different Bullets (90gr SMK, 95gr SMK, 85.5gr Berger , 85gr Nos RFD, 80gr Nos Custom Comp, 77gr TSMK & 77gr SMK)
Most of my hitches were with cycling. That has since worked its self out. The only time I have any issues with picking up the next load is with the lower charges of CFE. I put the lighter JP spring in, that seemed to help most things. . Gun shoots well. Bets group to date is .462 with 24.3gr CFE223 and 80gr Nos Custom Comps. . Unfortunately, that is the only load that shoots well in the CFE. The Powder Pro has possibilities with everything but the 77grainers. The 95gr SMK I think will shoot lights out once I am done tweaking, But I think all the heavier stuff will shoot great with the 2000-MR. Also, all the CFE and the 95gr SMK/2000-MR Loads were in Virgin Starline Brass. I had some 1once fired Fed also. I did not see any difference between the 2

I have whacked quite a few whitetail deer with a 22 caliber--fast 22s like a 22-250,22 creedmoor or 22-6mm work wonders on our Texas deer. I have been shooting my 22 creedmoor and hammered a axis doe about 2 weeks ago after snowmeggdon down here, 88 ELD hammered her at 200 yards. I like larger calibers but it works. I shave shot them with 222,223, and smaller stuff like 22 hornet--but really heavy bullet, fast stepping 22 caliber are where a deer rife should start--at least down here.
